Chicken Run 2 trailer – Mrs Tweedy returns but not Mel Gibson and more | Films | Entertainment

It’s been 23 years since Aardman Animations’ stop motion classic Chicken Run hit cinemas.
And now Chicken Run 2 aka Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is set for release this year with the first teaser trailer arriving from Netflix today.
The upcoming film’s synopsis reads: “For Ginger and the flock, all is at stake when the dangers of the human world come home to roost; they’ll stop at nothing even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk to save chicken-kind. This time, they’re breaking in!”
The biggest reveal in the first look footage is the return of Miranda Richardson’s Mrs Tweedy, however much of the original voice talent has been recast.
Thandiwe Newton replaces Julia Sawalha as Ginger, while Zachary Levi replaces Mel Gibson as Rocky.
Romesh Ranganathan and Daniel Mays replace Timothy Spall and Phil Daniels as Nick and Fetcher the rats.
Meanwhile, David Bradley replaces the late Benjamin Whitrow as Fowler.
Director Sam Fell said of Mrs Tweedy’s return: “They say a movie is only as good as its villain and Ginger’s nemesis, Mrs Tweedy is one of the all-time greats. Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the Dawn of the Nugget. We’ve had so much fun working with Miranda Richardson to transform Melisha Tweedy into the ultimate 1960s super-villain. Miranda has a unique understanding of drama and comedy, making you laugh while scaring the pants off you in the exact same moment. Also rounding out our fantastic cast is Peter Serafinowicz playing Reginald Smith, a slightly bemused businessman visiting Mrs Tweedy’s giant nugget factory. It takes a particular kind of comic genius to play the foil to Miranda Richardson’s hilariously frightening archvillain. Peter pulls it off with effortless finesse.”
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 14 before the movie hits Netflix on December 15, 2023.

Elvis ex confesses hit song lyrics inspired by living with the King | Music | Entertainment

Over 50 years ago, Miss Tennessee model Linda Thompson moved into Graceland with Elvis Presley following his separation and eventual divorce from Priscilla. After four and a half years, Linda had had enough of the celebrity lifestyle and the couple broke up around Christmas 1976, less than a year before the singer died of a heart attack on the toilet at just 42. In the decades since, Linda became a successful lyricist, sometimes channelling her lingering romantic feelings for Elvis into her songs. One of these, a Whitney Houston classic, she co-wrote with ex-husband David Foster.
Penned for the 1992 film The Bodyguard, the Oscar-nominated I Have Nothing included lines about Linda’s love for Elvis like “I never knew love like I’ve known it with you” and “don’t walk away from me, I have nothing, nothing, nothing if I don’t have you.” This has long been a rumour and was addressed by the 75-year-old in a new Instagram post today. She captioned it, “It’s true that living with a diva legend like Elvis helped to inspired these lyrics that I wrote”, before going on to explain.
Linda confessed: “So many people have asked me if the lyrics I wrote for the Whitney Houston classic I HAVE NOTHING were inspired by my years long, romantic relationship living with Elvis Presley. The answer is absolutely yes! Elvis was a world famous diva rockstar, and Whitney‘s character was a world famous diva popstar. When you live with an icon intimately like I did, you get to understand them from their deepest soul outward. And all the emotions I experienced during those years have become my co-writer in many song I have written since…”

Elden Ring movie cast is revealed (Image: FROMSOFTWARE)
Forget Avengers Doomsday, Dune: Part Three and the next Top Gun, the new movie I’m most excited about is the live action adaptation of Elden Ring. Written and directed by Alex Garland, the movie is based on the hugely popular game by Dark Souls developer FromSoftware. With fans facing an agonising wait for the 2028 release date, production studio A24 has announced the cast for the Elden Ring movie, and there are some pretty big names attached to the project.

The Elden Ring movie features the likes of Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw and Nick Offerman.
Cailee Spaeny’s credits include Alien Romulus, Civil War and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, while Whishaw has appeared in the likes of Skyfall, Spectre, Paddington and The Danish Girl.
Nick Offerman, meanwhile, is best known for his roles in Parks and Recreation, Civil War and The Last of Us.
Other cast members include Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Rocketman, Warfare), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones, Under Salt Marsh, Brazil), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machuina, House of the Dragon), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag, The Musketeers).
According to IGN, there are also roles for Havana Rose Liu (Tuner, Bottoms), Ruby Cruz (Bottoms, The Threesome), John Hodgkinson (Dear England, Napoleon), Jefferson Hall (House of the Dragon, Oppenheimer) and Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, A Haunting in Venice).
UK actor Peter Serafinowicz is also among the cast members, although it’s unclear who he or any of the other actors will play.
While Serafinowicz is perhaps best known for appearing in the likes of Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy and for voicing Darth Maul in Phantom Menace, he is also a big fan of FromSoftware games.
He even voiced the character of Mild Mannered Pate in Dark Souls 2, and has voiced characters in video games such as LEGO City Undercover, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and LittleBigPlanet 3.
Elden Ring movie director Alex Garland’s previous credits include Ex Machina, Annihilation and Civil War. Garland has also written the likes of 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Dredd.
Bandai Namco explains more: “To bring the epic world and intense action of ELDEN RING to film, the project will be led by filmmaker Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War, Warfare) as writer and director.
“The film will be produced by Peter Rice alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, and George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.”
The original game was directed by FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, while A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin provided world building elements.
Elden Ring is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 port expected to launch later this year.
Titled Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the Nintendo Switch 2 port features the base game as well as the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Fans can also expect a selection of bonus items, which include new weapons, items, armour and skins for your horse.
