Fashion lovers race to buy Roman’s ‘slimming’ spring skirt

With spring finally on the horizon, many of us are seeking wardrobe staples for the season ahead that are both comfortable and stylish. Roman is now offering its pleated midi stretch skirt for £32, but shoppers can currently use the code FLORAL to get 10% off, taking the price to just £28.80.
The skirt, which comes in navy, black and various patterned designs, features a full length and a comfy elasticated waistband making it both a practical and chic option. The item is also super versatile, working as well for the office with a light knit as it would for evening and weekend plans styled with a shirt or T-shirt.
What’s more, the shoe options are endless – dress up with heels or wear with sandals or trainers for daytime looks. Other spring ready skirts we’ve spotted on the high street include New Look’s classic Blue Striped Cotton Seersucker Circle Maxi Skirt which features a timeless design and costs £32.99.
Over at Nobody’s Child and those who are partial to a fun print may wish to shop the retailer’s White Tomato Print Maxi Skirt which has been slashed in price from £69 to a mere £27, and what’s more shoppers can add the code SPRING15 at checkout to get a further 15% off, taking the price to £22.95.
Back to Roman, and the pleated midi stretch skirt can be worn now and styled well into summer, giving fashion enthusiasts maximum bang for their buck. The black and navy options are ideal for those who prefer more neutral outfits or who want to tone down more playful items they already own, while the patterned styles can easily be teamed with a plain top for an effortless look.
Roman’s customers have given the skirt – which comes in UK sizes 10-20 – high praise, with one commenting: “I love this skirt and worn with a v neck jumper (Roman), it is slimming. It feels and looks feminine!”
Meanwhile another liked how versatile the item is, writing: “Great skirt for any occasion, you can dress it up or wear it casually. Looks great with heels or flat shoes, even white pumps. Great material for easy washing.”
A third said: “Lovely skirt. Dress up or down! Love it! It’s light and swishes plus lovely and long. Would buy in other colours.”
It is worth noting that one reviewer felt the skirt may perhaps be best suited to taller shoppers, commenting: “Wanted a navy pleated skirt – a little long but pleased.”
Despite this, others had high praise for the item, with another Roman customer writing: “Love it! Looks and feels good. Will get lots of wear of it.”

Shoppers can get £200-worth of fragrance for under £50

Beauty boxes seem to be everywhere at the moment, and as a Shopping Editor, I’m lucky enough that I get to open a lot. Mostly, I see makeup and skincare, but one thing that I review fewer of is scent boxes. However, I just spotted a box entirely dedicated to fragrance from OK! (A ReachPLC sister brand of the Express) and according to them, it’s worth £200. However, it retails for £59.99. But we have a way for you to get it for £10 off full price.
With the special code SCENT10, which should be automatically applied, you can get it for £49.99. If you consider the value of the box, that’s a saving of approximately 75%.
Inside, you will find eight items: five of which are full-size, which is pretty good considering some beauty boxes (like Next’s Luxe Box) only include four.
There’s a good variety of scented products for things like body, hair, home, and, of course, classic perfume. A standout name in the box is Vera Wang. This is the Green Tea and Pear Blossom Body Mist, which is perfect for everyday spritzing.
The next big name is from Aromatherapy Associates with their Revive Body Oil. It’s designed to do wonders for your skin and be uplifting, as well as fragranced with citrus and herbal notes. In a review of the oil, someone said: “This is absolutely gorgeous. I love it so much, it smells amazing, but it’s pricey to use every day. Highly recommend it, though it’s beautiful.”
Another reviewer added: “This is the best body oil ever, I keep trying others which are cheaper, but this one is by far the most luxurious, it’s moisturising without being greasy, it smells incredible, it’s easily absorbed and leaves skin feeling amazing.”
Then, there is a candle. The Disciple Cerise Noire Candle is there for atmosphere. It’s a richer, sweeter scent with a base of fruit cherries. For traditional perfumes, you’ll find Sentier Fernway Eau de Toilette, which is closer to a traditional perfume with what is described as a balanced, slightly woody fragrance.
The FUL Styling Spray is mainly a hair product with a scent added. The fragrance is secondary to what it actually does, which the brand says is smoothing and styling.
The Avant Pure Emerald Eau de Parfum is positioned as the real, traditional perfume in this box with sweet notes. It’s probably better for nights out.
The Mudmasky French Kiss Lip Balm is practical. The scent is just a small bonus, but this is mainly about hydrating the lips.
Finally, there is the Grüum Skira Melting Sleep Butter, designed to help make bath time just that little bit more relaxing. Break a bit off and allow it to dissolve into the warm water. Alternatively, glide the bar gently over your body, massaging the rich oils directly into your skin.
The Scent Discover Kit has a five-star rating from previous customers. One person said: “Fabulous selection of beauty products in the scent discovery collection, great value, and opportunity to try out new brands.”
Another added: “Everything in the scent box is of good quality, and it all smells amazing, especially the aromatherapy associate’s body oil. Very happy with my purchase.”
That said, there was one review that said only one of the products was worth the purchase.

‘Lovely’ White Stuff spring dress doesn’t need ironing

Shoppers looking ahead to their summer holiday wardrobes are snapping up an elegant midi dress that ‘washes beautifully with no need to iron’. Now, the Rua Jersey Collared Midi Dress is available for £69 from White Stuff.
The midi-length number comes in a navy style with a graphic white floral print – but there are three other patterns and prints available, all for the same price. It would seem like the Rua Dress is a crowd favourite, with White Stuff saying in the listing: ‘We’ve brought it back again. Love it for its super soft fabric, flattering midi length and the charming, muted floral pattern.’
Made from 52% organic cotton and 48% modal, the dress has short sleeves, a collared neck and buttons running up the middle. It’s available in sizes 6 through to 24, with the option for regular or petite styles, so shoppers can tailor the length to how tall they are.
As it’s made from jersey, the dress won’t need ironing – and it’s machine washable, for even more ease. It can be dressed up – with heels and a smart jacket – or worn with trainers and a cardigan for more casual occasions.
If shoppers prefer polka dot patterns, Next has the Light Yellow Button Through Tea Midi Dress for £34.99. This floaty summer dress features a V-neck, a button-through style and a bow detailing.
For a shorter option, there’s the Pink Floral Satin Belted Mini Shirt Dress, which costs £66 from River Island. This vibrant floral satin mini dress features a tie waist and long sleeves – perfect for a summer garden party.
The Rua Jersey Collared Midi Dress has been rated a high 4.5 out of five stars from nearly 3,000 reviews on the White Stuff website, with 92% of reviewers recommending it. One shopper said: “Lovely dress, good length if you are tall. Short sleeves are great if you are over a certain age. Perfect for when you need to look tidy.”
Another wrote: “I purchased this recently in blue and so have only worn it once in Italy. Lovely material and washes beautifully with no need to iron. Packs well for holidays too, as it doesn’t crease. The size was perfect as well, so I would highly recommend.”
While a third chimed in: “These Rua dresses are very flattering and will be so useful in the summer. The sleeves give the right amount of coverage and the neck line is just right. The length is a perfect midi. The fabric is not too heavy. Lovely dress.”
However, some shoppers shared some slight critiques, like one who said: “Lovely dress, perfect fit and length. Love the heart pattern but the colour not as the photograph, I ordered the pink but it’s more orange than pink. Still decided to keep it though.” Another added: “Lovely style, well-made, easy to wash and pretty fabric patterns, but I wish [they had] larger buttons as [they are] hard for arthritic fingers. I have most patterns with either sleeves or short sleeves.”

LookFantastic box has £150-worth of skincare for £45

When it comes to skincare, finding products that genuinely tackle more than one concern isn’t always straightforward. That’s where LookFantastic’s latest launch steps in.
The Dermatological Edit is designed to take the hard work out of building an effective routine, bringing together nine targeted formulas that aim to cover all the bases. The bundle, which features names like Medik8, Bioderma and La Roche-Posay, is worth over £150 but retails for £45. That works out at roughly £5 per product.
As the name suggests, the edit leans heavily into dermatologist-approved formulas, with each product chosen to address specific skin concerns. There’s Medik8’s Press & Glow Tonic to help gently exfoliate and refine skin texture, while Bioeffect’s Hydrogel Mask is on hand to deliver a hit of hydration and plumpness.
Meanwhile, La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Serum hydrates and helps smooth the appearance of fine lines, and Heliocare’s 360 Oil-Free Gel Sunscreen provides lightweight daily protection. Meawhile, Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water helps to eliminate impurities while respecting the skin’s balance.
Of course, skincare is never one-size-fits-all, and what works wonders for one person might not deliver the same results for another, so a bit of trial and error is always part of the process. That said, edits like this offer a low-risk way to experiment with new formulas while also stocking up on old favourites.
The Dermatological Edit is still too new to have racked up reviews, but many of the individual products inside already have strong feedback. A fan of Medik8’s Press & Glow Tonic shared: “I couldn’t believe a toner could have such an impact.
“Really cleanses, giving a lovely feel to my skin and a lovely shine. Added to my many Medik8 products I can’t be without.”
And someone who loved Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Micellar Water said: “I’m really positively surprised how well it removes the make-up, leaving your skin feeling soft and fresh. This product didn’t cause any irritation to my acne-prone skin.”
However, someone else noted: “I used it a couple of times and both times my face got a bit red, it didn’t sting at all, but it was red. I also noticed that my mascara took a little longer to get rid of.”
On a brighter note, a La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Serum fan piped up: “My skin was feeling a little dry and tired, especially in the morning, but after this serum, it looks fresher and more alive.
“Texture is a little bit gel and slightly thick, but it absorbs fast into the skin. It does not feel heavy or greasy. After applying, the skin feels very soft and smooth. I see small lines look more or less visible, and skin looks more plump.”
