On September 5, 1946, a future music icon called Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar to his Parsi parents.

Taking on the stage name of Freddie Mercury, he would go on to become one of the greatest singers in the history of rock as the frontman of Queen.

Tragically, he died at just 45 in 1991 from complications of AIDS, which he was diagnosed with in 1987.

Today would have been Freddie’s 77th birthday and his fellow bandmates Sir Brian May and Roger Taylor have posted sweet tributes to him on Instagram.

However, fans shouldn’t expect one from bassist John Deacon, since he’s been retired and living a very private life since 1997.

Sir Brian posted a photo of the We Will Rock You musical’s gold statue of the Queen singer and captioned it: “Happy Birthday dear Freddie. Bri.”

Meanwhile, Roger shared a picture of himself and Freddie wearing Mexican sombrero hats. He simply wrote: “Happy birthday dear Fred.”

Today also marks the final day that the public can view the content of Freddie’s Garden Lodge home for free at Sotheby’s London, before his possessions are auctioned off from tomorrow.

Unseen Elvis concert footage film from Baz Luhrmann gets thrilling trailer | Films | Entertainment

Following his 2022 move biopic Elvis, Baz Luhrmann has been hard at work on his next film about the King of Rock and Roll.

Warner Bros has given the filmmaker unprecedented access to a ton of unused footage from classic Elvis Presley documentaries.

These include the 1970 Las Vegas residency concert movie Elvis: That’s The Way It Is and 1972 concert road film, Elvis on Tour.

The filmmaker unearthed the unseen negatives when Warner Bros allowed him to dive into their underground salt mine vaults in Kansas while he was researching his biopic.

Also among the treasure trove was rare behind-the-scenes audio that had been feared lost, including recordings of Elvis telling stories about his life.

Restored and remastered, Baz says it’s not quite a documentary, not quite a concert movie, but promises it’s Elvis Presley like never before.

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is in IMAX from February 20 and cinemas from February 27.

Iconic noughties pop sensation The Cheeky Girls have reportedly swapped the stage for the showroom, having temporarily “hung up their hotpants”, and are now working at car dealerships. The Romanian twin sisters, Gabriela and Monica Irimia, burst onto the scene in the early 2000s with a string of top ten bangers, including the unforgettable Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum).

After first capturing the public’s imagination on Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002, the sisters have shifted millions of records worldwide. Throughout the years, they’ve cemented themselves as household names, something Monica says they’re especially “proud” of. For now, though, they’ve “hung up their hotpants”, partly because of day jobs that couldn’t be further removed from their pop star past.

The duo, now 43, are currently “toiling away” as “salespeople at Audi dealerships”, Closer magazine reports. Speaking to the publication, the twins revealed: “Having two so radically different jobs is amazing. It’s like having two identities, and we love that.”

The sisters’ venture into motor retail came to light in a 2021 report, which disclosed that Gabriela had begun working as a salesperson at a Hyundai dealership in York.

Monica, meanwhile, although in the same line of work, secured a position at a different Hyundai dealership in Lincolnshire. She told  The Sun on Sunday they required a “solid business” for their future, highlighting how the car industry would “always be good business”.

Monica explained: “Being an entertainer is fantastic, but like it was with Covid, if you don’t have a solid job or business, how do you survive? Gigs all disappeared for two years during Covid, but we didn’t stop making money.”

She continued: “Sometimes we only sleep two-three hours to do the gigs and get to work, but it’s worth it.”

Gabriela revealed she was equally enthusiastic about her new venture, hinting at the time that the duo might eventually launch their own dealership, with punters reportedly giving them “glowing” feedback.

She said the twins are “busy bees” and, in time, they would invest in their own dealership, explaining how she loves both driving and cars and dubbing it a “passion for me”.

Their mother, Margit, appeared fully supportive of the car sales enterprise, pointing out that the twins couldn’t remain Cheeky Girls forever and needed to “have a business”.

She remarked: “Let me ask you this: can you be a Cheeky Girl when you’re 60? She needs to have a business and realises that girl fashion is now cars. Women are changing their cars every year.”

Despite being viewed as a novelty act, The Cheeky Girls have achieved notable success in the music world. Their debut single Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) climbed to number 2 in the UK charts, shifting an impressive 1.2 million copies globally.

Their other releases include Take Your Shoes Off, (Hooray, Hooray) It’s a Cheeky Holiday! and Have a Cheeky Christmas.

Elvis daughter Lisa Marie’s hidden childhood message inside Graceland drawer | Music | Entertainment

Elvis Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie Presley, spent much of her first nine years living at Graceland before her father died in 1977.

In interviews, The King’s daughter described how much of “a terror” she was at that age. But did you know the mischievous little girl left some hidden graffiti in a “secret drawer” that is there to this day?

Graceland archivist Angie Marchese revealed the news during a live virtual tour of the Memphis mansion that Daily Express previously participated in.

She pointed out the drawer located in the corridor next to the kitchen on the way into the Jungle Room from the front door.

It’s right by where fans walk during the regular in-person tour of Graceland. Followed by a live streaming camera, Angie opened the drawer.

Written inside was Lisa Marie’s graffiti which read, “Lisa’s home Graceland” with a smiley face. Also within the drawer was a 1993 phonebook, which may seem quite random but the Elvis historian revealed it was owned by The King’s Aunt Delta Mae, who lived at Graceland until that very year. She was the sister of Elvis’ father Vernon Presley who was invited to live at Graceland with the rest of the extended family when her husband died in 1966. Even after Elvis died in 1977 and tours of his home began in 1982, Aunt Delta still lived at Graceland using her bedroom and the kitchen for the rest of her life. This meant those rooms were off-limits to the public to accommodate her before she died in 1993 at the age of 74. Back in the seventies, she would take care of Lisa Marie as Elvis slept in the day, making sure she had her bath and dinner.

Interestingly, all kinds of items remain in drawers at Graceland just as they were left by those living in the mansion. For example, the plates and glasses are still kept in the kitchen cupboards, as is china in the ones in the dining room. Additionally, a drawer in the music room quite randomly features a samurai sword gifted to Elvis by a Japanese officer.

Lisa Marie very much saw Graceland as her family home until the day she died, occasionally having Thanksgiving there at the dining room table. The china she used is kept in the drawers of Aunt Delta’s bedroom, which is connected to the kitchen and isn’t on the tour.

It was also the request of Elvis’ daughter that the upstairs be preserved as The King left it in 1977. This means his bed is made, the last record he played is on the record player and even a styrofoam cup is on a shelf. Her eldest daughter and heir, Riley Keough, keeps to these wishes to this day.
