BREAKING: Moscow Warns of Overwhelming Response After Nuclear Missile Test | WION News

Russia has issued a powerful warning: a ‘stunning’ response will follow any long-range strikes hitting deep inside its territory. The warning comes amid Western discussions about supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, weapons with a 2,500km reach. Kremlin officials are concerned some Tomahawk variants can carry a nuclear warhead, a factor that could trigger catastrophic escalation.

The US government shutdown has entered its third day with the threat of job cuts hanging over staff and the the pause of public programmes.

President Donald Trump has threatened mass layoffs and said he and his budget director will work out which “Democrat Agencies” to cut.

Trump suggested Republicans should seize the opportunity to “clear out dead wood” and gave no hint of concessions to Democratic demands that legislation funding the government should include healthcare insurance subsidies.

Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill, meanwhile, continued to blame each other for failing to keep federal agencies open.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are staying home, while others worked without pay.

At least 19 people died when a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a school campus building shortly after take-off.
Another 171 students were rescued, many suffering burns, from the smouldering two-storey building after the worst aviation incident in the country in recent memory.
Distressed locals and family members gathered at the campus as emergency crews worked to extinguish the blaze at the scene, and doctors at hospitals battled to treat dozens of badly burned children, some under the age of 12.
Bangladesh’s government has announced a national day of mourning, with flags to fly at half-mast across the country.
