I’m a spa expert and coffee is my favourite ingredient

Next time you go to throw away your used coffee grounds – stop – because they could well form the basis of a brilliant at-home spa treatment. “Coffee is a skin superfood,” says Ivonne Quinche, spa manager at Royalton Grenada, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort. But why? “Coffee is renowned for its regenerative properties and its ability to combat inflammation, making it a valuable addition to skin care routines,” says Ivonne.

Thanks to its high caffeine content, coffee exhibits anti-inflammatory effects that are particularly effective in reducing fluid retention and addressing cellulite concerns.

“Coffee is also rich in antioxidants that deeply penetrate the skin’s dermis, contributing to improved elasticity and an overall healthier, more rejuvenated appearance,”  says Ivonne.

So how can you use it at home?

THE DIY SPA TREATMENTS

Banana & coffee face mask

For this exfoliating and hydrating face mask you’ll need: your used coffee grounds, a ripe banana, a tablespoon of honey. The coffee texture along with fruit enzymes from the banana will buff away dead skin cells and brighten, while the honey is antimicrobial and nourishing.

1 Mix your coffee grounds in a bowl with a well mashed banana and enough honey to bring the lot together.

2 Apply all over the face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes to let the natural ingredients work their magic.

3 Rinse with warm water, and apply your favourite moisturiser to finish.

Coffee & coconut oil body scrub

You’ll need: your used coffee grounds, plus an oil to bind them together like coconut oil. The anti-inflammatory properties of coconut make it an excellent choice for soothing skin irritations and redness, promoting a calmer complexion.

1 After forming a paste with your coffee and your coconut oil, stand in the bath and massage it into the skin on your body in circular motions. This has an exfoliating and circulation boosting effect.

2 Rinse with warm water, ensuring all the mixture washes away down the pug hole.

3 Pat yourself dry – there may be some oil residue left but leave this to continue nourishing the skin.

‘Lovely’ White Stuff spring dress doesn’t need ironing

Shoppers looking ahead to their summer holiday wardrobes are snapping up an elegant midi dress that ‘washes beautifully with no need to iron’. Now, the Rua Jersey Collared Midi Dress is available for £69 from White Stuff.

The midi-length number comes in a navy style with a graphic white floral print – but there are three other patterns and prints available, all for the same price. It would seem like the Rua Dress is a crowd favourite, with White Stuff saying in the listing: ‘We’ve brought it back again. Love it for its super soft fabric, flattering midi length and the charming, muted floral pattern.’

Made from 52% organic cotton and 48% modal, the dress has short sleeves, a collared neck and buttons running up the middle. It’s available in sizes 6 through to 24, with the option for regular or petite styles, so shoppers can tailor the length to how tall they are.

As it’s made from jersey, the dress won’t need ironing – and it’s machine washable, for even more ease. It can be dressed up – with heels and a smart jacket – or worn with trainers and a cardigan for more casual occasions.

If shoppers prefer polka dot patterns, Next has the Light Yellow Button Through Tea Midi Dress for £34.99. This floaty summer dress features a V-neck, a button-through style and a bow detailing.

For a shorter option, there’s the Pink Floral Satin Belted Mini Shirt Dress, which costs £66 from River Island. This vibrant floral satin mini dress features a tie waist and long sleeves – perfect for a summer garden party.

The Rua Jersey Collared Midi Dress has been rated a high 4.5 out of five stars from nearly 3,000 reviews on the White Stuff website, with 92% of reviewers recommending it. One shopper said: “Lovely dress, good length if you are tall. Short sleeves are great if you are over a certain age. Perfect for when you need to look tidy.”

Another wrote: “I purchased this recently in blue and so have only worn it once in Italy. Lovely material and washes beautifully with no need to iron. Packs well for holidays too, as it doesn’t crease. The size was perfect as well, so I would highly recommend.”

While a third chimed in: “These Rua dresses are very flattering and will be so useful in the summer. The sleeves give the right amount of coverage and the neck line is just right. The length is a perfect midi. The fabric is not too heavy. Lovely dress.”

However, some shoppers shared some slight critiques, like one who said: “Lovely dress, perfect fit and length. Love the heart pattern but the colour not as the photograph, I ordered the pink but it’s more orange than pink. Still decided to keep it though.” Another added: “Lovely style, well-made, easy to wash and pretty fabric patterns, but I wish [they had] larger buttons as [they are] hard for arthritic fingers. I have most patterns with either sleeves or short sleeves.”

LookFantastic box has £150-worth of skincare for £45

When it comes to skincare, finding products that genuinely tackle more than one concern isn’t always straightforward. That’s where LookFantastic’s latest launch steps in.

The Dermatological Edit is designed to take the hard work out of building an effective routine, bringing together nine targeted formulas that aim to cover all the bases. The bundle, which features names like Medik8, Bioderma and La Roche-Posay, is worth over £150 but retails for £45. That works out at roughly £5 per product.

As the name suggests, the edit leans heavily into dermatologist-approved formulas, with each product chosen to address specific skin concerns. There’s Medik8’s Press & Glow Tonic to help gently exfoliate and refine skin texture, while Bioeffect’s Hydrogel Mask is on hand to deliver a hit of hydration and plumpness.

Meanwhile, La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Serum hydrates and helps smooth the appearance of fine lines, and Heliocare’s 360 Oil-Free Gel Sunscreen provides lightweight daily protection. Meawhile, Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water helps to eliminate impurities while respecting the skin’s balance.

Of course, skincare is never one-size-fits-all, and what works wonders for one person might not deliver the same results for another, so a bit of trial and error is always part of the process. That said, edits like this offer a low-risk way to experiment with new formulas while also stocking up on old favourites.

The Dermatological Edit is still too new to have racked up reviews, but many of the individual products inside already have strong feedback. A fan of Medik8’s Press & Glow Tonic shared: “I couldn’t believe a toner could have such an impact.

“Really cleanses, giving a lovely feel to my skin and a lovely shine. Added to my many Medik8 products I can’t be without.”

And someone who loved Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Micellar Water said: “I’m really positively surprised how well it removes the make-up, leaving your skin feeling soft and fresh. This product didn’t cause any irritation to my acne-prone skin.”

However, someone else noted: “I used it a couple of times and both times my face got a bit red, it didn’t sting at all, but it was red. I also noticed that my mascara took a little longer to get rid of.”

On a brighter note, a La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Serum fan piped up: “My skin was feeling a little dry and tired, especially in the morning, but after this serum, it looks fresher and more alive.

“Texture is a little bit gel and slightly thick, but it absorbs fast into the skin. It does not feel heavy or greasy. After applying, the skin feels very soft and smooth. I see small lines look more or less visible, and skin looks more plump.”

JLo and CharliXCX both own these affordable luxury handbags

If you’re thinking about investing in an accessory that’ll go the distance, a handbag is always a smart place to start, especially one that can move effortlessly from daytime errands to evening plans. And when it comes to style inspiration, celebrities rarely miss the mark. They always seem to have that one covetable bag on their arm that instantly makes you want to rethink your own collection.

One brand that keeps popping up on some very stylish shoulders (without straying into eye-watering price territory) is Charles & Keith. If you’re not familiar, it’s a Singaporean label founded in 1996 by brothers Charles and Keith Wong, known for its trend-led but wearable designs. Think clean lines, modern shapes, and minimal logos—pieces that feel polished and put-together without costing a fortune. In fact, plenty of their most popular styles come in at under £100 full price.

And while the price point might be accessible, that hasn’t stopped it from becoming a favourite among big names. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Charli XCX and Lola Tung have all been spotted out and about with bags from the brand.

J.Lo, for example, was seen at a screening of her film Unstoppable in New York City, pairing a chocolate-brown knitted co-ord with the Charles and Keith Gabine leather saddle bag in a rich brown shade. Her exact bag has since sold out (no surprise there), but similar styles in the range start from £79.

The star was also papped in 2023 while out and about in Los Angeles, carrying the Charles and Keith white Crescent Hobo Bag. Similar bags in the range retail for £65.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX brought a playful edge to things at a beach party in Cannes, carrying the Hazel bow elongated trapeze shoulder bag, which retails for £85.

And Lola Tung (best known for her role in Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty) was also spotted with one of the brand’s designs. While out in New York, she carried the mini Delfina belted tote from the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, adding a chic finishing touch to her look.

The brand is already fairly affordable, but right now there’s even more reason to browse. Charles & Keith is currently running a sale with up to 50% off selected handbags, with some of the lowest-priced styles under £40.

As a Shopping Editor, I’ve done the scrolling for you and picked out some of the best pieces with the biggest savings. Whether you’re after a statement bag that turns heads or a timeless, goes-with-everything option, there’s a mix of styles in the sale that should cover just about every mood and occasion.
