Alia Bhatt is the queen of our hearts. From playing Rani Chatterjee in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani to teaching us how to repeat outfits like a total pro, Alia never fails to make our hearts skip a beat. Now, the actress has opened up about how she deals with trolling and criticism. Alia, at Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2023, said that “negativity travels faster.” The actress, who is celebrating her daughter Raha’s first birthday today, added, “I am a human being, I am bound to say maybe four stupid things in public and people may make fun of that. I may also say 14 intelligent things, but sometimes negativity travels faster than positivity. I believe in the larger picture… Love conquers all.”

Talking about how she dealt with trolls in her initial days, Alia Bhatt said, “I have lived my life in the public eye. So, I have gone through different stages with any sort of scrutiny that I have faced. Maybe, initially, I was a little bit more defensive. Younger… More like…Aray why are they saying this? Later, maybe, I was a bit more dismissive…Like, forget it. No one cares. But I think I have grown into a person who genuinely feels that I have nothing to complain about.

She continued, “I don’t think it’s fair with the position I am in, maybe the privilege that I have, it doesn’t look nice for me… I don’t feel that that’s correct. So, even though maybe sometimes you don’t want to read nasty things about you or your relationships or your family, I’m not going to ever fight with my audience… As long as my movies are doing well and I’m entertaining them, when I say I’m grateful for all the love, these are the moments that I have to show my gratitude. I am who I am because of the audience.

Alia Bhatt added that it is also “important to differentiate between constructive criticism and endless hate”. As per the actress, “a person can just look at me and not like my face. I can’t do anything about it…”

The actress said that she has “never experienced any kind of troll or negativity upfront.” Alia continued, “That’s what I choose to focus on. If there is some chatter, I hope it dies down and we move forward.”

On vulnerability, Alia Bhatt added, “It’s not like nobody is unfazed by negative comments. You have moments of vulnerability… You may even feel regret. I’ve become a more private person as a result. But it’s not like you’re going to fault anyone. I’ve never in my life said that you can’t say this about me or don’t say that about me. Sometimes lies, complete lies are spoken. I’ve never said anything back because I believe that’s not the way I want to conduct myself. I’m openly going to be vulnerable and kind and accepting ki jo bolna hai bolo, as long as you’re enjoying my movies. As long as I manage to entertain you, that’s all that matters.”

Alia Bhatt will be next seen in Jigra.

As artificial intelligence advances at a breakneck pace and becomes woven into everyday life more rapidly than any technology before it, concerns about its implications are mounting for many people.

The horror-comedy M3GAN taps into this unease, deliberately aiming to unsettle viewers with its sinister plot.

The fact that M3GAN takes the form of a child-like humanoid doll only amplifies the unsettling atmosphere surrounding her character.

Initially programmed as a companion for a grieving young orphan, the situation deteriorates rapidly as she begins to think for herself with alarming consequences.

The film stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald and the voice of Jenna Davis, and garnered praise from reviewers for striking a balance between campy entertainment and genuine scares, proving successful enough to warrant a follow-up. Viewers can catch it on Film4 this evening, reports the Mirror.

After losing both parents in a tragic car accident, eight year old Cady (McGraw) moves in with her aunt Gemma (Williams), a roboticist by trade.

Employed at a cutting-edge toy manufacturer, Gemma has been covertly working on M3GAN (portrayed physically by Donald and voiced by Davis), an AI-powered android doll designed to befriend isolated youngsters. When her superior uncovers the project, he demands she abandon it immediately.

Struggling to forge a bond with her emotionally distant niece, Gemma presses ahead with M3GAN’s development anyway, which initially proves successful as Cady and the silicon companion form a close connection.

Yet the creation’s protective instincts spiral dangerously out of control, leading to deadly outcomes and unleashing a campaign of terror.

Upon its 2023 debut, M3GAN proved to be a phenomenal commercial triumph. Despite its relatively modest production costs of approximately $12million, the film raked in more than $180 million at the global box office.

The film’s promotional strategy undoubtedly contributed to its popularity, particularly when footage of M3GAN’s dance moves became a viral sensation across TikTok.

Reviewers applauded the production for reinvigorating the horror genre with both entertainment value and genuine scares. Audiences have expressed their enthusiasm on Rotten Tomatoes, where it boasts an impressive 93% approval rating.

One five-star reviewer said: “I watched M3gan with trepidation but I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The robot M3gan was realistic and creepy. I enjoyed the story and glad I finally watched it. Two thumbs up!”.

Another appreciated its cautionary tale: “M3egan is an excellent film, a well-executed horror comedy that masterfully conveys its message: technology is harming us,” they added.

A third viewer was thoroughly unnerved: “Terminator’s little girl movie really has a plot, M3GAN an attitude and the movie keeps the interest from the beginning to the frenetic end. M3GAN was an AMAZING movie! I really enjoyed it. Truly horrifying and scary.”

M3GAN airs tonight, Monday 16 February at 9pm on Film4.

The film noir masterpiece Angel Face, featuring Jean Simmons and Robert Mitchum, has been lauded as ‘first class’ by cinema enthusiasts and is now accessible on BBC iPlayer.

The 1953 classic introduces us to the elegant Diane Tremayne, portrayed by Jean Simmons. Diane is a wealthy sophisticate with a knack for manipulation, hiding a sinister side beneath her polished exterior and impeccable manners.

Following the sudden demise of her stepmother (Barbara O’Neil), Diane sets her sights on the dashing Frank Jessup (Robert Mitchum).

As she begins to charm him, Frank grows suspicious that Diane may have played a more sinister role in her stepmother’s death than she admits.

The film boasts a stellar cast including Jean Simmons and Robert Mitchum, alongside Mona Freeman, Herbert Marshall, Leon Ames, Barbara O’Neil and Kenneth Tobey.

Despite its 1950s origins, Angel Face remains a revered film noir gem, boasting a commendable 77 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reports the Mirror.

One reviewer on the site praised: “Beautiful and dark film with all kinds of Freudian themes. Simmons is spectacular, as is Mitchum.”

Another said: “I liked the darkness of this classic 50s noir. The ending is predictable but fun. This one was watched on BBC iPlayer.”

A third added: “Women pulling a man’s strings to get him to do the undoable. 1001 movies to see before you die,”.

A fourth viewer wrote: “Very disturbing and dire blend of a melodrama and film noir. Angel Face shows its true, psychotic face in the persona of Diane Treymayne, a wealthy, stepmother-hating 19-year old girl, who seduces an ambulance driver named Frank, and soon gets him to work for her family and live in their house. Even though he tries to get away from her abusing grasps, he is still infatuated with her affected charm.

“Sinking deeper and deeper for Diane’s own amusement, Frank soon is dragged into one hell of a ride. Great piano score creates a distressing mood and a perfectly sombre atmosphere in some of the movie’s most important scenes.

“Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons did an incredible job here. Otto Preminger created yet another stupendous noir.”

A fifth said: “While the storyline itself is unoriginal, the script is first class and so are the performances. Meow, Jean Simmons is riveting as the femme fatale in this classy noir! Robert Mitchum is perfect too as the cynical Frank. A must see for film noir fans!”.

Another review read: “A very underrated film noir with one of the most shocking endings I have seen!”.

Angel Face is now available on BBC iPlayer.

Tom Hardy is one of the UK’s most popular actors, and many viewers say almost everything he appears in is worth watching. He has starred in some huge films over the years, but some say that one action movie is well above the rest. It was filmed mainly in the desert and featured more than 150 stunt performers.

The production famously took years to complete after several delays, and the director insisted on shooting most scenes with practical effects instead of CGI. It later won six Oscars and became the highest-grossing film in its series. It now has a 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and those who have seen it keep recommending it.

The movie in question is Mad Max: Fury Road. It follows Max Rockatansky, played by Tom Hardy, in a world where fuel and water have almost disappeared.

He becomes involved in a dangerous escape led by Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, as they try to outrun a violent warlord and his followers.

Much of the film takes place on the move, with long chase scenes across the desert.

The cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton. It was directed by George Miller and released in 2015.

Many people keep calling it one of the best action films they have ever seen.

One person said: “The opening is wild, kicking off with a captivating start. I think everything about this movie is perfect: the visuals, the action, the dialogue, the costumes, the acting. It was both beautiful and apocalyptic.”

Another added: “Mad Max: Fury Road is the finest piece of pure action spectacle that I’ve watched. It also happens to be Tom Hardy’s best film by a mile.

“Hardy feels like an obvious fit for the role and brings some working class style charisma to the part. This is the kind of film you watch to see stuff that’s never been done before.”

A third wrote: “It’s an action masterpiece. It’s ridiculous in all the right ways and one of the greatest action films ever put to screen.”

Someone else commented: “It’s an absolutely insane action film that will blow you away.

“It was filled right to the brim with continuous over the top bloody ridiculous action sequences that keep you on the edge of the seat and just amazed at what is happening on screen.”

The film was made using practical stunts wherever possible, including the flame-throwing guitar, which worked in real life.

It went on to become a major box office success and won awards for editing, costume design, sound and production design.

It has since appeared on multiple “best films of the decade” lists and is still frequently recommended by fans.

Mad Max: Fury Road is available on NOW or can be bought and rented on Prime Video.
