Mumbai:

Actor Gaurav Chopra, who acted in films such as Bachchhan Paandey and Rana Naidu, talked about his role of Lieutenant Colonel, Devendra Rawat in Gadar 2 and the physical training he underwent for playing the character on-screen. From putting on 9 kg weight, training and living with real-life army officers to pulling off a sensational stunt with a real tank without any safety support and security, he tried to give his best for the role. He shared, “Well, it feels like a reward from God. I have always believed that the higher the risk, the higher the reward. After Covid-19, I consciously decided to step out of my comfort zone and only be a part of projects selectively that challenge my potential as an actor like never before.”

“I believe when the intentions are right, God also supports you and that’s how, I zeroed up on projects that could showcase me in unexpected light, like Bachchhan Paandey, Rana Naidu and Gadar 2 all, one after the other. I was very confident mentally after Rana Naidu, especially because I was bestowed with two special award honours for my character of Prince. However, at the same time, I was also certain in my mind that I can’t afford to be complacent and hence, I always need to be on top of my game each and every day to push myself beyond regular limits.”

He further said, “I put on 9kg weight before every schedule to look like an army man from 1970. There was a lot of intense training involved for my character as a respected army officer. I actually lived and trained with them to understand the small and minute details of their lifestyle. From their life to their thoughts, their conversations and their food, what they do in their training to how they fight and how they eat, I observed all. It was such a beautiful learning experience for me. Their presence around me filled me with positivity and ‘josh’ was certainly a big source of motivation behind pulling off that tank stunt.”

“In the climax, Col. Rawat makes an entry standing on a tank. Anil (Sharma) ji wanted a heroic entry when I came to save the situation. He asked me if I could stand on it and enter as it would look larger than life, I said yes immediately without realizing it moves very differently from other vehicles. The tank bends forward during movement and gets very bumpy. Since there was nothing to place your foot strongly or hold onto something, it was actually very dangerous. However, we did the shot 2-3 times and I made it safely. Now in hindsight, I realise that if I were to just lose my balance, there were chances of a very serious or fatal injury,” he concluded.

Gadar 2 stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in lead roles.

Panchayat actor Vinod Suryavanshi, who made an impactful presence in a brief appearance, recalled the horror of casteism in his native place, Karnataka, during a recent chat. From a security guard to a junior artist to getting a chance in big projects, Vinod Suryavanshi’s fascinating journey has not been an ordinary one.

The actor also shared how he was rejected several times for his looks.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Vinod Suryavanshi said, “In my village in Karnataka, casteism is still prevalent, even today. There are two areas in that village – one for the upper castes and one for the lower castes. The area where the Dalits live is separate from the village. Once, when I went to the village with my father, I was 12 years old and ate at a hotel, we had to wash our own plates and also pay for the food. There is still a temple where we are not allowed to go in my village.”

‘I Was Rejected Many Times’

Vinod Suryavanshi recalled how he was rejected many times for his dark complexion.

“I was rejected many times because of my looks. When I gave auditions for TV, they often wanted a ‘rich look’. Even for a beggar’s role, they wanted someone with a rich look. I was told I didn’t fit the requirement. I was selected for a role as a house help. The casting team had finalised me, and I reached on time for the shoot. But when the creative director came, she asked who I was. When they told her, she said, ‘No, this won’t work – we need someone with a fair look. He is dark-complexioned, pack him up’,” said the actor.

Childhood Trauma

Vinod shared that coming from a downtrodden background has overshadowed his childhood experiences. He did not like festivals as there was no reason to celebrate.

“My mother worked as a domestic help, and my father was a mason. He didn’t get work every day, and when he didn’t, he would come home drunk. My childhood environment wasn’t good – he would abuse and even hit my mother. I grew up watching all this, and it felt terrible. I didn’t hate him, but I didn’t like his behaviour,” he said.

Speaking of Panchayat, it’s one of the most popular shows on the OTT platforms, headlined by Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav among others.

Apart from Panchayat, Vinod featured in small roles in films like ThammaSatyameva JayateJolly LLB 3 and more.

Dhurandhar Singer Jasmine Sandlas Trolled For Pouring Water On Herself And Lip-Syncing During Ahmedabad Concert

Jasmine Sandlas is currently riding high on the response to her songs in Dhurandhar. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film was released in two parts, with Jasmine lending her voice to five tracks, including the original film’s title track, Shararat, Main Aur Tu, Aari Aari and Jaiye Sajana.

Amid this, a video from Jasmine Sandlas’ recent concert in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has been doing the rounds on social media, drawing critical reactions online.

The clip, from her April 19 performance, shows the singer taking the stage in a lehenga choli while performing Shararat. At one point during the act, Jasmine is seen pouring water over herself before continuing with the track. She also performs the hook step on stage.

However, certain moments in the video have sparked debate among viewers. In a few portions, Jasmine Sandlas appears to lower the microphone while the song continues playing in the background, leading some to question whether parts of the performance were lip-synced.

While the crowd at the venue can be seen cheering and enjoying the act, a section of viewers online expressed disappointment and did not hold back while sharing their reactions.

A user wrote, “Live concert me bhi live nahi gaate ye log. (Even at a live concert, they do not sing live.)” Another one added, “This is not live. She is lip-syncing the whole song.”

A comment read, “Isko gane Bulaya tha ya acting krne. (Was she invited to sing or to act?)” Someone asked, “Kya zaroorat thii iski?? (What was the need for this?)” Many also questioned, “ Why lip sync??????.”

Some reactions were more critical in tone. A person wrote, “2 gane hit kya hua eski overacting to aur zyada ho gayi. (Ever since two songs became hits, her overacting has increased even more.)” Another added, “Thoda Pani kam he ek balti aur dalo. (That’s not enough water, pour another bucket.)”

At the same time, not everyone was unimpressed. A section of fans came out in support of Jasmine Sandlas and praised her stage presence and energy. “What a show it was. Thank you, Jasmine Sandlas, for creating these kind of shows,” read one positive comment.

Jasmine Sandlas stepped into Bollywood playback singing with Salman Khan’s film Kick. Her track Yaar Na Miley from the film turned out to be a massive hit. She later went on to deliver several popular tracks, including Illegal Weapon 2.0, Taras Ni Aya Tujhko, Nasha, Ashiqaan and Poison Baby.
