Man Utd CEO Richard Arnold ‘to leave’ after Sir Jim Ratcliffe deal as successor eyed | Football | Sport

Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold is likely to leave his role if Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes a £1.4billion deal for 25 per cent of the club, according to reports. Sir Jim and INEOS are expected to make changes to United’s football department if they reach an agreement with the Glazer family, and Arnold is set to fall victim.
According to The Athletic, Arnold’s future has been discussed as Sir Jim closes in on investment into United, which is expected to include total sporting control at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim plans to overhaul the club’s structure, and Arnold is said to understand that the writing is on the wall less than two years after replacing Ed Woodward as CEO in February 2022.
Arnold will continue to lead the club while the 71-year-old businessman remains locked in talks with the Glazers over starting what he hopes will be a phased takeover.
And it’s claimed that the timeline of his departure remains unclear once INEOS takes hold of United’s football decisions.
But the report adds that Jean-Claude Blanc, who joined INEOS to oversee the petrochemical giant’s sporting projects, is being considered as Arnold’s replacement, permanently or on an interim basis.

Blanc is Juventus’ former chief executive, who left a high-ranking role at Paris Saint-Germain last December to join Sir Jim’s team striving for sporting excellence.
Woodward left his role as United’s CEO amid severe backlash following the European Super League’s collapse in April 2021.
Arnold, who has heavily contributed to United’s commercial growth since 2007, replaced him and took steps to make the club more Manchester-based, working from Old Trafford compared to Woodward’s London office.
After years of mismanagement under Woodward, he vowed to allow football people to make football decisions, naming John Murtough United’s first football director.
Murtough’s role will also be under threat if Sir Jim and INEOS take sporting control, with replacements already reportedly being lined up.
Paul Mitchell is being touted as the frontrunner to replace Murtough, having returned to Manchester earlier this year after leaving his role at AS Monaco.
Former Liverpool chiefs Michael Edwards and Julian Ward have also been discussed, with Sir Jim keen to further streamline United’s operations.
The Failsworth-born businessman hasn’t reached an agreement with the Glazers yet, though, with face-to-face talks between the two parties over the complicated deal continuing.

Wimbledon 2026 tickets and VIP hospitality: How to buy seats at Court No 1 now | Tennis | Sport

Summer is approaching fast and with the sunshine comes a renewed fervour amongst tennis fans eager to secure their place at Wimbledon. And 2026 is shaping up to be a truly spectacular year. Kicking off on Monday, 29th June 2026, Wimbledon will once again throw open its gates for another fortnight of exhilarating tennis action in London. The prestigious tournament runs from June 29 to July 12.
As is the case every year, tickets were snapped up within moments of being released through the official ballot earlier this year. As a result, very few remain available through standard channels. Thankfully, there is still a way to get your hands on tickets for Wimbledon 2026 right now. Official VIP and hospitality ticket supplier Seat Unique currently has a wide selection of tickets on offer for every day of the upcoming tournament.
Prices on the website range from around £2,000 per ticket, rising to approximately £10,000, with each option coming with its own set of exclusive benefits.
Several packages boast “unparalleled view of the court”, alongside “access to the Debenture facilities on the day, with food and drinks available to purchase”. Certain tickets also grant access to some of the finest vantage points around the court.
One option promises “debenture Seating within the Middle Tier of Court No 1”. All of these VIP and hospitality packages can be browsed and purchased directly through the Seat Unique website.
Alternatively, supporters are urged to monitor the official Wimbledon website closely. At the time of writing, the official ticket page confirms that “the Wimbledon Public Ballot for The Championships 2026 is now closed,” suggesting that no additional tickets are currently on offer.
However, further tickets may emerge at a later stage should fans return theirs, or if supplementary stock is made available. Supporters can visit the official Wimbledon website here.
Fans can also hunt for tickets through resale platform viagogo. The secondary marketplace specialises in the buying and selling of tickets for live music and sporting events between enthusiasts.
At the time of writing, viagogo has a substantial number of Wimbledon 2026 tickets listed for purchase, with some commanding prices of approximately £3,000 each.
Wimbledon 2025 delivered a captivating tournament for tennis fans. Jannik Sinner secured the men’s singles title, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.
Meanwhile, Polish sensation Iga Swiatek claimed the women’s singles crown, overcoming American rival Amanda Anisimova in the final.

Alejandro Garnacho ‘torn apart by Chelsea squad in dressing room’ at half-time | Football | Sport

Alejandro Garnacho was reportedly laid into by his Chelsea players at half-time of the Blues’ recent defeat against Manchester United. Garnacho was subbed into the game early doors after an injury to Estevao forced the Brazilian wonderkid off the pitch.
After initially failing to make an impact on the right-hand side of Chelsea‘s attack, boss Liam Rosenior switched him over to his more favoured left-hand side. It didn’t work to much effect though, as Garnacho continued to struggle throughout the 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho, of course, arrived from United in the summer transfer window, joining for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £40million. The Argentine was getting plenty of stick from the travelling United fans throughout Saturday night’s Premier League encounter, but as far as Garnacho was concerned, the stick didn’t end there.
As per The Sun, it’s claimed the Chelsea players were unhappy with Garnacho’s contributions, with some even going as far as giving him an earful during the half-time interval. Meanwhile, his former United team-mates revelled in their victory over Garnarcho on social media, with Luke Shaw posting a photo of him clattering into the ex-Red Devil.
It was liked, or commented on, by team-mates Dalot, Fernandes, Cunha, Joshua Zirkzee, Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez, Patrick Dorgu and Mason Mount. Elsewhere, the official United social media account clipped up videos of Garnacho being tackled by several of their players, which received plenty of admiration from fans online.
It comes after Garnacho made some inflammatory comments during the last few days of his United career, including criticising the then-manager Ruben Amorim for not starting him in the Europa League final. He angered the fans shortly after by posting a picture in Marcus Rashford’s Aston Villa shirt, with a move to Chelsea having been agreed shortly after.
The winger recently opened up about his actions, to Premier League Productions, the 21-year-old said: “I remember that, in the last six months, I was not playing like before at Manchester United. I started to be on the bench. It’s not such a bad thing – I was only 20 years old – but in my mind it was like I had to play every game.
“In my mind, maybe it was also on me. I started to do some bad things. But it was just a moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions. I am really proud to be [at Chelsea] and still in the Premier League at a club like this. About United, I have nothing wrong to say about the club, anyone at the club or my team-mates. It was just a moment that changed and life continues. I have no regrets.”

BBC pundit Stephen Hendry publicly called out by snooker star as row breaks out | Other | Sport

Chris Wakelin took a post-victory dig at long-standing critic and BBC pundit Stephen Hendry. The No.13 seed says he would be first in line to congratulate Ronnie O’Sullivan should he clinch an eighth World Championship title to surpass the Scot in the snooker record books.
Wakelin defeated Liam Pullen to advance into round two, a result that brought particular satisfaction to the 34-year-old after once again feeling unfairly written off by the seven-time Crucible king. The English star said: “Someone who doesn’t rate me at all is Stephen Hendry. Even on his Youtube the other day, which I’m a big fan of and watch it every week, he said on there that he fancied Liam to beat me, and in the next breath he said I’ve never seen him play before. Whatever.
“When I played him a few years ago [British Open qualifiers in 2021] everyone was ringing me up before and saying: Oh you’re playing him, he’s come back.
“I thought I’d have a little dig so when they asked me: Are you looking forward to playing a seven-time world champion and legend? I said I was a bit young to remember when he was at his best, but my mum was a huge fan! And then he beat me!
“He obviously doesn’t rate me at all because I’m not World No.1 or World Champion or World Champion in the past, but it’s my job just to go out there and focus on my game.
“I’ve got a massive amount of respect for anyone who’s ever won a tournament in this game, it’s so difficult. Stephen being a seven-time world champion, I’ve got nothing but admiration for the guy. But he clearly doesn’t think I’m any good.
“Every single players’ event, whenever I’m playing a match on TV, he always says the other guy is going to win. I laugh about it every time and it gives me a lot of pleasure to just go out there and do my thing.
“You’re always going to have critics in this sport as you do in every sport, so it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.”
Hendry and O’Sullivan are level on seven World titles apiece and, with the Scot having hung up his cue, The Rocket has the chance to consign him to the history books.
Wakelin believes he would relish that moment, saying with a grin: “Oh yeah, just to see his face at the end. They’ll definitely stick him on commentary for the final session of the final.
“It will be a long time coming and it would be quite funny. I’d be at the front of the queue to congratulate Ronnie.”
