Max Verstappen hits out at Toto Wolff’s ‘bull****’ Red Bull comments as tensions sparked | F1 | Sport

has snapped back at team principal after he questioned the Dutchman’s ongoing dominance over team-mate . A gap of 138 points currently separates the duo in the Drivers’ Championship standings, with Verstappen simply in a league of his own as things stand.

Perez had a 15-second advantage over Verstappen at one point during last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, although the latter inevitably ended up winning to secure his ninth straight F1 victory. The result left Wolff at a loss to explain why Verstappen was so much quicker than Perez in the same car, given that the latter has already proven himself as a worthy Grand Prix winner.

Wolff described the situation at Red Bull as ‘odd’, saying: “Checo’s not an idiot. We have seen in all these years Checo is a Grand Prix winner, multiple Grand Prix winner, and he was at Racing Point, so I cannot comprehend.

“We’ve seen that Max has destroyed every single team-mate that was with him, whether it’s his ability to create a car around himself, that is just very tricky to control but fast if you can, and that creates those gaps. But I haven’t heard any obvious explanations. But yeah, odd.”

Verstappen has since issued a firm response to Wolff’s comments by calling out the ‘bulls****’ and insisting that Red Bull’s car is not specifically designed to suit his driving style, regardless of what those on the outside might think.

He said: “Bulls*** comments. It’s not like that, I just drive the car the fastest way possible. I’m not there to tell the guys ‘give me more because that’s how I like it’. I just say to design me the fastest car and I’ll drive around that because every single year, every car drives a little bit differently.

“People ask ‘what is your driving style?’. My driving style is not something particular. I adapt to what I need for the car to go
quick. For me, what is very important is that you are able to adapt your driving style to what the car needs.”

Perez has only managed to beat Verstappen twice this season and will almost certainly be forced to settle for second place in the Drivers’ Championship standings at the end of the year. There has been no indication that Red Bull’s power dynamic will shift in his favour any time soon, while it has also been reported that he could be ditched by the team when the campaign draws to a close.

Chelsea target was snubbed by Saudi Arabian club but failed £58m transfer left him ‘happy’ | Football | Sport

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Victor Boniface three months after he failed to secure a transfer to Saudi Arabia. The Nigeria international seemed destined for a move to Al-Nassr towards the end of the January window but the Saudi outfit pulled the plug on a deal.

Al-Nassr were desperate to sign a new striker to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. They lined up deals for Boniface and Jhon Duran before making a late decision. It was Duran whose £64million switch was given the green light by officials, with Boniface forced to remain with Bayer Leverkusen. However, the 24-year-old is said to have been ‘happy’ and did not allow missing out on signing a lucrative contract ruin his mood.

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said a week after deadline day: “He’s very good now and I think he’s happy. He’s happy with the guys. That’s what I feel every day when I see him.

“He’s laughing in the locker room with the other crazy guys. They have a lot of fun together and he knows he has a bright future, so it’s not a once-in-a-lifetime chance.”

Now, a move to Chelsea could be on the cards. CaughtOffside report that the Blues are eyeing a move for the forward as an alternative to Alexander Isak.

Chelsea are expected to sign a new centre-forward in the summer transfer window. Nicolas Jackson’s inconsistency has been a source of frustration. The Senegal international has also spent large periods of the season out injured, with Enzo Maresca struggling to find a replacement.

Isak and Benjamin Sesko have been strongly linked with the west Londoners. Both players have interest from other Premier League and European clubs, with Chelsea facing a major battle to sign either player. An alternative such as Boniface could be an ideal agreement to strike.

Jackson had scored nine Premier League goals before suffering a hamstring injury in February. He is expected to miss a large part of the remainder of the season.

To return to the top of the Premier League, Chelsea need a player who can match the scoring exploits of the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah. Boniface has scored seven Bundesliga goals in only 837 minutes this season – the equivalent of just under 10 matches. He would provide excellent competition to Jackson.

Judd Trump questioned the conditions and sent a message to the tournament organisers following his Players Championship final defeat against Kyren Wilson.

Trump told ITV: “The balls were playing a bit tricky, it wasn’t like the rest of the tournament where I was able to play free-flowing. I don’t know what the difference was today. It was very, very strange and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that before in a tournament. It was a good tournament and I’ll look forward to the next tournament.”

Pressed on the issue of the cue balls, Trump added: “It was tricky. It was tricky for both of us. The ball was very light and it was taking off like a ping-pong ball. It was a bit strange.”
