Meghan Markle’s life in pictures as Duchess celebrates 42nd birthday | Royal | News

Meghan Markle’s Suits character lays law on new employee
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is celebrating her 42nd birthday, no doubt surrounded by her loved ones.
In light of it being the former actress’s big day, Express.co.uk is taking a look at her extraordinary life from small screen star to one of the most famous women in the world.
Born on August 4th 1981 in Los Angeles, California, Meghan was the youngest of three, having two half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Jr with whom she has said she is not close.
Her parents, Emmy-award-winning TV lighting director Thomas Markle Sr. and social worker Doria Ragland split up when she was six years old. Although she is close with her mother, who lives near her and Prince Harry in Montecito, she is estranged from her father.
When she was just 11 years old, Meghan and her classmates wrote to Procter & Gamble, asking that they change a dishwashing soap advert that was targeted exclusively at women, which saw the company change their slogan from “women” to “people”.

She attended Immaculate Heart from the ages of 12 to 17 where she felt she was “an ugly duckling” and the “smart one” rather than “conventionally beautiful”.
In her free time, she did humanitarian work, volunteering in a local soup kitchen.
Meghan then studied theatre and international relations at Northwestern University School of Communication, Illinois.
While there, she worked as an intern at the US embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and studied in Spain for a term.

The Duchess then pursued acting and before landing her big break, Meghan had minor roles in TV shows and independent films. She also briefly worked as a briefcase girl on Deal or No Deal.
Speaking on her podcast Archetypes, released last year, she described the latter as a “fascinating” experience which she was “thankful” for but explained that she ended up quitting as she felt “objectified”.
The Duchess then rose to prominence by playing Rachel Zane, an ambitious paralegal who later becomes an attorney, in the legal drama Suits from 2011 to 2017, later leaving the show because of her association with the Royal Family.

The former actress tied the knot with American film producer and actor Trevor Engelson in 2011, having met in 2004 and dating for six years before getting engaged in 2010. The pair said “I do” at the Jamaica Inn resort in Ocho Rios, a five-star hotel which looks over the Caribbean Sea.
Sadly, the marriage did not last and they went their separate ways in 2013 citing “irreconcilable differences” in their no-fault divorce.
In 2014, she launched the Tig, her lifestyle blog named after her favourite wine, Tignanello. The site was her “passion project” which she later closed down in 2017 following embarking on her relationship with the King’s younger son.
She first met Prince Harry in London in July 2016, after the Duke saw one of her Instagram posts and they were introduced by a mutual friend.
The couple met at Soho House at 76 Dean Street and hit it off with things moving quickly from there. For their third date, they headed to Botswana, Africa, and camped under the stars.

By October of that year, the Sunday Express reported that the couple were dating, launching Meghan into international fame. Since then, the Duchess has been subjected to intense scrutiny.
In their self-titled six-part Netflix docu-series, released last year, Harry revealed how he proposed to Meghan over a roast chicken dinner in 2017. A year later, they tied the knot at a fairytale wedding in May at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
But the couple’s relationship with the press soured matters with the Sussexes claiming Buckingham Palace was “leaking” and “planting” stories about thm.
In 2019, during her and Harry’s tour of South Africa, she hinted that there was tension behind closed doors which later culminated in their stepping back from royal life in 2020.

Meghan and Harry now have two children together, Archie and Lilibet, having settled in California after giving up their home in Frogmore Cottage.
Since leaving the Firm, the couple have told their story, speaking candidly both in interviews and documentaries. For example, in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan made the shocking revelation that she struggled with suicidal ideation while pregnant with her son.
In the years since they stepped back from royal duties, Meghan has continued her humanitarian and media work. Although the couple’s deal with Spotify has been cancelled, her recent 12-part podcast series Archetypes was widely successful, topping charts and winning awards.
Happy birthday to the Duchess!

Putin Says Russia Ready To Resume Talks With Ukraine “Without Preconditions”

Quick Take
Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed.
Russian President Putin told US envoy Witkoff that Russia is open to unconditional talks with Ukraine, as Trump suggests different approaches to deal with Putin amid ongoing conflict and failed negotiations for peace.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told US envoy Steve Witkoff that Russia is ready to hold talks with Ukraine “without preconditions”, the Kremlin said on Saturday.
“During yesterday’s talks with Trump’s envoy Witkoff, Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia is ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine without any preconditions,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who also added that Putin has repeated the same several times.
This comes in the midst of US President Donald Trump’s talks with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in Rome, at the funeral of Pope Francis.
In a post on Truth Social after his talks with Zelensky, Trump also said maybe Putin “has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?'”
He posted on his social media platform he said, “…there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!”
Trump, who promised on the campaign trail to strike a deal between Moscow and Kyiv in 24 hours, has in three months failed to wrangle concessions from Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt his invasion.
The Republican had said over the weekend he hoped a peace deal could be struck “this week” despite no signs the two sides are anywhere close to agreeing even a ceasefire, let alone a wider long-term settlement.
Moscow’s forces occupy around a fifth of Ukrainian territory and tens of thousands have been killed since they invaded in February 2022.

Prince Andrew, Epstein Accuser Virginia Giuffre Dies By Suicide: Report

Sydney:
Virginia Giuffre, who accused disgraced US financier Jeffrey Epstein and Britain’s Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, has taken her own life at her home in Australia, her family said Saturday. Giuffre, a US and Australian citizen, was 41.
“It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia,” the family said in a statement provided to AFP by her agent.
“She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.”
She had accused Epstein of using her as a sex slave, and said she had sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17 — a minor under US law — after meeting him through the American billionaire.
In 2019, Epstein took his own life in a New York City jail cell, while awaiting his own trial for sex crimes.
Prince Andrew repeatedly denied her allegation of sexual assault and avoided trial by paying a multimillion-dollar settlement. As part of the deal, he reportedly gave money to a charity for sex-trafficking victims.
“There are no words that can express the grave loss we feel today with the passing of our sweet Virginia,” Giuffre’s family said, remembering her “incredible courage and loving spirit”.
“In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight. We know that she is with the angels.”
Giuffre left three children, Christian, Noah, and Emily, who were “the light of her life”, her family said.
Last month, she was hospitalised after a car she was in crashed with a school bus in a rural area north of the Western Australian capital Perth.
Giuffre initially posted a picture to social media from her hospital bed of her bruised face, saying she only had four days to live.
Her agent later said Giuffre had not realised the post had been published to the public.
Western Australia police said at the time it was a “minor crash” between a school bus carrying 29 children and another vehicle.
Giuffre’s lawyer, Sigrid McCawley, said Giuffre had been a “dear friend” and a champion for other victims.
“Her courage pushed me to fight harder, and her strength was awe-inspiring.”
New York-based agent Dini von Mueffling described her client as “one of the most extraordinary human beings”.
“Deeply loving, wise, and funny, she was a beacon to other survivors and victims,” she said.
