Naomi Osaka has confirmed that she plans to play at January’s after giving birth to her first child, Shai, this summer. The also intends to play “way more tournaments” than she used to partake in before her pregnancy in a different approach to before her time away.

Osaka, 25, announced that she was expecting a child days before the first Grand Slam of this year, curtailing her season before it had even begun. At the time, she told her fans she was aiming to be back for the 2024 edition, and that remains the case.

The four-time Slam winner’s final match before announcing her pregnancy was at the Pan Pacific Open in September 2022. After advancing through the first round thanks to her opponent, Daria Gavrilova, retiring, she then withdrew from the second stage, citing abdominal pains.

Over a year later, Osaka was at the U.S. Open on Wednesday, speaking about mental health in sports on a panel alongside Michael Phelps. She was also spotted at Arthur Ashe Stadium watching 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev beat Andrey Rublev in straight sets.

While in Flushing Meadows, she spoke with ESPN‘s Chris McKendry about her return to the sport. After admitting that her schedule for next year is in place, Osaka did divulge further details.

“Um, it’s definitely way more tournaments than I used to play,” she said. “So I think some people will be happy with that.

Osaka explained: “Honestly, I think it’s because I realize, like, I don’t know how the beginning of the year is gonna go for me. Like, I don’t know the level of play, and I think I kind of have to ease into it.

“So, at the very least, I’m gonna set myself up for a very good, like, end of the year.” That bodes well for next year’s U.S. Open. By then, Coco Gauff could enter that competition as the defending champion.

Asked about the American, Osaka was effusive in praising the teenager after playing down the suggestion that she mentored her. “I’m always really proud of everything she does,” she said.

“Like, she seems like such a good person. And just everything she’s doing and speaking out about so many different topics.

“I think it’s something that I would love my kid to look up after her as a role model. And just seeing her doing well in, like, her home Grand Slam is really cool, and I cheer for her every match that she plays.”

Osaka also spoke about the moms that she would be rejoining on the tour. Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina have returned to the sport since giving birth this year alone, with Angelique Kerber aiming to become another.

“I think we’re probably gonna form a group chat or something,” she said while laughing. “Um, but it’s really good to see everyone playing well again and to see familiar faces.

Dom Taylor has been banned for six months by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) after failing a drugs test during the World Darts Championship. It comes after he tested positive for cocaine and cannabis during the tournament at Alexandra Palace. Taylor had already been banned from all Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events and made to forfeit his £25,000 prize money from the competition.

A hearing in front of a discplinary committee established that Taylor’s drug offence took place before the tournament. However, because it was his second offence, he was hit with a mandatory six-month ban under DRA rules. He has also lost his Tour Card, with that decision being made earlier this month.

A statement from the DRA read: “Accordingly, and taking into account all of the available evidence, the committee were satisfied that Mr Taylor’s ingestion of both cocaine and cannabis occurred out of competition and was not following the commencement of the World Championship on 11th December 2025.

“Following on from this finding, the committee has determined that as this is Mr Taylor’s second offence, then under these Rules, he must serve a six month ban in line with 10.9 (a) and 10.9 (b) of UKAD Anti-Doping Rules 2021.”

Taylor previously served a one-month ban in 2025 following a failed drugs test at the Players Championship Finals. His ban was reduced from two years after he agreed a UKAD-approved three-month Substance of Abuse treatment programme.

After his failed test at the World Darts Championship, Taylor apologised for ‘blatant lying’ after he was thrown out of the tournament.

Taking to social media, he wrote: “The first thing I need to say is sorry! I am sorry to every single one of my family, friends, sponsors, management team and most of important of all, you guys, all my fans be it outside of darts or inside of darts, the game/sport I love the most.

“Also I need to apologise for blatant lying to you all in my interview after my win against Oskar [Lukasiak] last week, as I have been lying to myself and everyone else around me.

“I did complete and finish the course that I was required to do at the end of last/beginning of this year, along with everything else I was required to do and sanctions.”

Taylor went on to explain the trauma he suffered during his teen years, adding: “It is no excuse but all I can put it down to is the traumas I had in my early teen life.

“Finding my deceased nan in a bed at the age of 12, then within a year multiple other events happened including my brother having a heart attack and being non-responsive for 45 mins along with a very close friend dying of a brain tumour which all hit me very, very hard.

“My parents being the great parents they are got me counselling and help at the time but in hindsight I should of had more than just that little bit!!

“I have let many people down to say the least but most importantly I’ve let down four main people, my two daughters and my two biggest fans. My grampy passed before I made it.

“All I’ve ever wanted was just to make everyone proud, which I hope I have done until this moment. I know everyone, including my dad and family, are very upset and disappointed in me.

“The anniversary of my daughter’s death this year hit me very hard, too, and that’s when I started struggling with my mental health again, and turned back to substances to allow my body and head cope with things. Not needing to worry about anything.”

Liverpool are ‘pushing’ to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield in a free summer transfer, say Sky Sports.

The Crystal Palace captain has the pick of multiple clubs should he wait until the end of the season to move.

The host of BBC‘s snooker coverage, Hazel Irvine, issued an apology to legendary commentator Dennis Taylor after forgetting his achievements on the baize while on air. The iconic Masters event is underway with the BBC covering the entire tournament live on TV. Irvine is once again presenting having long been the face of the Beeb’s broadcasts of Triple Crown events. But the 60-year-old broadcaster was left a little red in the face after accidentally forgetting about Taylor while discussing his compatriot Mark Allen.

After a video package about Allen played, Irvine referred to the 39-year-old as the second Northern Irish player ever to win the Masters. But she was wrong – forgetting about her BBC colleague and legendary commentator Taylor. After getting a message in her ear, Irvine added: “Mark Allen, the third player I am corrected, to win the Masters. How could I forget about Dennis Taylor? Sorry DT. Apologies.”
