New Fire TV Stick warning will prove you are streaming Sky TV illegally

Amazon’s popular Fire TV Sticks have become renowned for allowing homes to tune into premium content without paying the usual high subscription fees. However, the days of watching things – such as Sky Sports – illegally appear to be numbered. Amazon recently announced that it is cracking down on so-called “dodgy” Fire TV Sticks, with the company set to block any apps that appear to offer users access to illegal streams.
Speaking recently to Express.co.uk, an Amazon spokesperson said: “Piracy is illegal, and we’ve always worked to block it from our Appstore.
“Through an expanded program led by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a global coalition fighting digital piracy, we’ll now block apps identified as providing access to pirated content, including those downloaded from outside our Appstore.”
Although many users are still able to access illegal streaming services via their Fire TV Sticks, it appears the crackdown is now starting, with some already seeing a “warning’ message.
As spotted by the team at AFTVnews, once a dodgy application is launched, an alert pops up which states that the software has been identified as offering access to illegal content.
“Warning. One or more apps on your device have been identified as using or providing access to unlicensed content, including this app, and will be disabled. To remove this app now, select “Uninstall”.”
Users then still have the option to launch the app, but the alert gives a good indication that it’s been spotted and a ban is on the way.
It’s unclear when a full block will come into force, but Amazon says the update will start being rolled out in Europe first, with UK users being blocked at some point in the future.
Although this change will go some way toward stopping illegal streaming, it won’t address the underlying issue of why people are streaming illegally in the first place.
Top analyst Paolo Pescatore told Express.co.uk that the change is “long-overdue” and the move is a “step in the right direction”.
However, there is a broader problem: consumers are being forced to pay increasingly high subscription fees to access content.
“Broadcasters are spending more to secure live sports rights and passing these costs onto consumers who can’t afford them, leading to a messy, fragmented experience,” Pescatore added.

Did a £2,599 memory foam mattress solve my chronic back pain?

The Tempur Pro Air SmartCool Plus mattress. (Image: Tempur)
I am 35, but for as long as I can remember I have had back pain. Partly blamed on minor scoliosis and a mythical stair tumble at age 3, I’ve visited countless osteopaths and physios since my early teens for various treatments, though it always comes back to exercising and stretching. No amount of cracking of your joints can truly fix anything, folks.
As I hit my mid-thirties, I also rather tardily realised my cheap Ikea mattress probably wasn’t helping my plight, even if it wasn’t actively making it worse. A check of my old digital receipts shows I paid a grand total of £179 for it a few years ago. Was this cheap mattress partly why I was waking up in lower back pain hell every day?
I have attempted to find out by replacing that £179 king size 18cm high spring mattress with a king size memory foam one that usually retails for an astronomical £2,599, though is currently on sale for £2,339. Is back pain a problem you can simply throw money at?
I won’t bury the lede: no, it is not. While the (deep breath) Tempur Pro Air SmartCool Plus Medium Firm 25cm Mattress is a marked upgrade for me, and has made my nightly slumber less painful, it is not a silver bullet for immediate comfort. At the time of writing, I’ve spent 17 nights on it.
British bed retailer Dreams offered me the chance to try the Tempur mattress out. The mammoth 47kg unit arrived unfurled and needed two of us to get it up the stairs. Dreams offers a 100-night comfort guarantee, which lets you exchange for a different model, not return it for a full refund. If your exchange is cheaper, you get the difference in Dreams credit, not cash. Notably, popular hybrid mattress brand Simba offers a 200-night trial with free collection and a full refund if you’re not happy. Many of its mattresses are hundreds of pounds cheaper than the one I tested.

Perhaps I need another 83 nights on the Tempur to really get a feel for it. I opted for medium firm, but it also comes in soft, medium and firm. Medium firm is proving quite firm, with enough give to let my shoulders and hips sink into the material but still keep my spine straight, as I am a side sleeper. It immediately is incredibly supportive, but it’s not a luxurious, sink-in feel.
Considering the price, I was hoping it’d feel like I was falling into a supportive cloud. That’s not the case. Instead, the Tempur Pro Air SmartCool Plus is so-named as it boasts temperature regulation via “advanced cooling technology” that claims to transfer excess heat away from your body to keep you cool.
I’ve also been testing the Tempur Cooling Tencel Mattress Protector (king, £105) Home by Tempur Luxe Fibre Cooling Duvet (king, £399) and Tempur Cloud Air SmartCool Medium Pillow (medium, £149). These accessories would normally cost £653, but you’ll get them at no extra cost in a deal running until February 3 when you buy any Tempur Pro Air SmartCool mattress. It’ll save you up to £860 if you’re buying the largest super king sizes.
The duvet is the unsung hero of this set, keeping me perfectly warm during the January cold snap. I never once overheated, so the duvet and mattress have done their temperature regulation job.
However, my six-month pregnant wife has overheated on several occasions, so there are limits to this technology. The mattress has significantly reduced her nightly soreness of hips and back, though.

The mattress is also currently on sale, down from £2,599 to £2,339, with other models also reduced. The Pro Air SmartCool Plus range sits in a range of three different options, above the regular Pro Air SmartCool, but beneath the Pro Air SmartCool Luxe. The regular is 21cm, the Plus is 25cm, and the Luxe is 30cm.
They are all classed as orthopaedic mattresses designed to offer pressure relief and support, being entirely memory foam rather than hybrid, which offers a combination or memory foam on top of pocket springs.
Memory foam was not as difficult to get used to as I had imagined. A lifetime of sleeping on unsupportive, bouncy springs means it’s odd the first few times you sit on the Tempur mattress and there’s no bounce. But the support is evident, even though it takes a few days to get used to the feel and for the memory foam to soften up. That said, this medium firm model has barely any give. I would have preferred something softer, on reflection.
To avoid my plight, Dreams offers in-store service Sleepmatch, which gets you lying on a mattress and uses 3D fit technology to analyse your body and assess what mattress is best for you. I really recommend doing this before forking out for something as expensive as what I have tested.
… this new mattress is telling me what my wise osteopath tells me. I’ll help you, but you need to put the work in to strengthen your back …
After the first week, my lower back pain had transferred to my mid back. Some daily stretches and a few runs soon sorted out my aches and pains, but I am not waking up pain free. For me, this new mattress is telling me what my wise osteopath tells me. I’ll help you, but you need to put the work in to strengthen your back with daily exercises. I can’t fix you on my own.
That’s why recommending a certain mattress is so difficult, as what mattress we all find best is very personal. I’ve enjoyed the more supportive memory foam, and the fact my wife and I can move in the night and not have the other person bounce around and wake up, a happy result of the absence of springs.
But if I had paid over £2,000 for this mattress, I would be living with buyer’s remorse after a couple of weeks. Perhaps I need longer to get used to it after years of insufficient nightly support, but also perhaps a slightly different model in the line up would be my perfect mattress. Buying online, it’s impossible to know.
I don’t think the bundled memory foam pillows are right for me, though.
Dreams has a great deal on these Tempur mattresses running until February 3, with its discount and free bedding bundle, but I urge you to go to your nearest Dreams store and try the mattresses before buying. You might find one is right for you – just don’t guess which one it might be, particularly when they cost so much and can’t be returned for a refund.

Your Samsung Galaxy S25 may look hugely inferior on this exact date next month

It’s the start of a new year, and that means one thing on the tech calendar. Samsung will almost certainly launch a new flagship phone. The Korean technology giant is renowned for refreshing its Galaxy S lineup during the winter, and it seems 2026 will be no different. In fact, the latest whispers suggest that the grand unveiling will take place on February 25 at one of the firm’s famous Unpacked showcases.
That February date is the one most tech experts, along with the French website Dealabs, seem to have set their sights on.
Predictions suggest that once the Galaxy S26 is showcases it will then go on sale from the middle of March which means there is still a couple of months before Samsung fans will actually get their hands on one.
Of course, Samsung won’t give anything away until closer to the release date, but it seems its S26 and S26 Ultra could get big updates, including a performance boost, thanks to the latest Qualcomm processor.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI could also get a boost thanks to the extra grunt supplied by the chipset. At its launch, Qualcomm boasted that its refreshed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will offer “the fastest mobile CPU in the world” and deliver “massive upgrades and experiences that users want today.” We will have to wait and see just how much better it is.
Other extras that are sure to feature include a boost to rear cameras, a new design, better durability and faster charging.
It will also be interesting to see if Samsung follows Google and Pixel and adds magnets into the rear of the device to improve wireless refilling and bring compatibility with MagSafe-style charging stands.
One thing that might not please consumers is the price.
A lack of RAM due to data centres could mean all gadget costs go up, and the Galaxy S26 could be one of the first to see price hikes.
Express.co.uk will be watching Samsung closely to see when an official announcement is made but watch this space.

Upgrade your iPhone today and claim a free pair of the latest AirPods

If you are thinking of upgrading to the newest iPhone this month, why not go for a deal that also gets you a pair of Apple AirPods 4 at no extra cost?
That’s what’s on offer from the folks at Mobiles.co.uk when you take out a new contract to get the iPhone 17 with 512GB storage. That’s double the entry-level 256GB model, and will ensure you have loads of space for photos, videos, messages and apps for years to come.
For a £59 upfront cost and then a 24-month contract of £50.99 per month, Mobiles.co.uk will also throw in a free pair of AirPods 4, the latest version of Apple’s AirPods range (note these are not the AirPods Pro).
This monthly payment gets you 100GB 5G data plus unlimited minutes and texts on the iD Mobile network, which is owned by high street retailer Currys, which also owns Mobiles.co.uk. iD Mobile runs on Three’s national UK network.
The AirPods 4 normally retail for £119. These free earbuds are the version without any kind of noise cancellation but have upgraded sound and a better fit than older AirPods, and have Apple’s smart features such as Adaptive Audio, Personalised Spatial Audio and touch controls.
You’ll also get up to 30 hours of playback with a fully charged set and case, popping them back in the case to top up power when it gets low.
These AirPods will pair excellently with the iPhone 17, the latest iPhone, which is an unexpectedly big upgrade over 2024’s iPhone 16. That’s mostly down to the display, which not only got larger, growing from 6.1-inches to 6.3, but also the iPhone 17 is the first ever base model iPhone to get the 120Hz ProMotion display previously exclusive to Apple’s Pro iPhones.
This means things scroll smoothly with less ghosting, and you can use the always-on display option, which can show the time and other information even when the screen is locked. It’s a lovely little addition that makes the iPhone 17 a better bet than the iPhone 16 if you want a premium phone you’ll hold onto for years to come.
The phone has the powerful A19 Bionic chipset and dual 48MP main and ultrawide cameras on the back, another upgrade. You’ll also be able to use Apple Intelligence, the firm’s AI features, plus there’s Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and better battery than older models.
One thing to note is that there will be two price rises each April as part of this contract, so your monthly costs will increase on April 1, 2026 to £52.49, and then to £53.99 on April 1, 2027.
After the 24-month contract you’ll own the phone outright, and will be free to switch to a cheaper mobile plan. Mobiles.co.uk says the AirPods 4 are available as a free add-on “while stocks last”.
