Nintendo’s new console launches in October, but you can’t play games on it | Gaming | Entertainment

Nintendo has announced a new console launch for later this year… sort of.
In a surprise announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo confirmed that it is partnering with LEGO to release a build-your-own Game Boy.
The LEGO Game Boy has been given an October release date, although pricing and number of pieces are yet to be revealed.
As you can see from the brief teaser trailer further down the page, it contains the same colour scheme as the original Game Boy, including the classic d-pad and buttons.
Nintendo previously partnered with LEGO to release a brick-based NES, complete with classic NES pad and TV screen with Super Mario Bros.
The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System is priced at £229.99 when in stock on the LEGO Store.
The LEGO Game Boy is unlikely to cost as much, although exact prices are yet to be announced.
Of course, the Nintendo console announcement fans are actually expecting is for the Switch 2.
Judging by recent rumours, it sounds like the Switch 2 is ready to go, we’re just waiting for Nintendo to make an announcement.
According to a recent leak, the console will be called the Nintendo Switch 2, which does come as something of a surprise.
n addition to being more powerful than the current system, the console is also said to have some additional functionality.
The Joy-con controllers will reportedly feature magnetic hall effect joysticks, which should eliminate stick drift.
The console will allegedly launch in dark grey, although further colours may also be available.
According to previous leaks, the new console is reportedly larger than the current model, with a smaller bezel for more screen space.
There’s a good chance the upcoming Metroid Prime sequel could launch as a cross-generation title for both the Switch and its successor.

Captain America: Brave New World’s Marvel cameos explained | Films | Entertainment

Warning – this article contains major spoilers for Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World is now in cinemas, but do any familiar faces pay the patriotic superhero a visit?
The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) facing an impossible choice when new president Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross (Harrison Ford) tries to recruit him to reboot the Avengers.
He soon uncovers a dark conspiracy at the heart of the US government and is forced to go rogue to put a stop to a dangerous supervillain who unleashes a terrifying monster on Washington DC.
The globally successful mega-franchise has become renowned for treating fans to surprise cameos from their favourite heroes, and Brave New World is thankfully no different.
While the Avengers remain disbanded for now, Sam is still very much a team player and doesn’t turn down some words of encouragement from a friend during his hour of need.
So, does his rival-turned-bestie James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes (Sebastian Stan), aka the Winter Soldier, make an appearance?
Following a battle above the remains of the celestial Tiamut in the Indian Ocean, which is being mined for the resilient metal Adamantium, Sam’s new sidekick Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), the new Falcon, is critically injured and taken to hospital.
Having failed to protect his partner, Sam is conflicted over whether he made the right choice by taking up the mantle of Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
Bucky pays Sam a surprise visit while the new Cap is questioning if he should have taken the super-soldier serum that gave both Steve and Bucky their incredible strength.
But Bucky advises against it, reminding Sam that people already respect him as their leader without the serum, strengthening his resolve as the patriotic hero.
After some inspiring words, Sam quips if Bucky, who’s now running for Congress, had his speech writers help him, to which Bucky admits they had a hand in it towards the end.
Sam’s new ally Ruth Bat-Seraph (Shira Haas) comes in just as Bucky’s leaving and can’t help admiring his good looks, to which Sam reminds her he’s technically 110 years old.
Bucky’s surprise appearance is not only sure to thrill fans, but it also serves as important set-up for Marvel’s next blockbuster, Thunderbolts*.
Formerly known as the Winter Soldier, Bucky is now considering a serious career in politics, but will ultimately be pulled into another comic book adventure with the likes of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour), plus his former adversary John Walker (Wyatt Russell).
Aside from Bucky, Captain America: Brave New World doesn’t have many other surprise appearances, keeping its attention on Sam’s battles with Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) and Thaddeus Ross, who transforms into the Red Hulk.
However, once Thaddeus is de-Hulked and apprehended, he does have a brief return with his daughter, Betty, with Liv Tyler making her first appearance as the character since The Incredible Hulk in 2008.
Captain America: Brave New World is in cinemas now.

This modern take on the second-chance romance trope stars Ali Wong and Randall Park as childhood friends whose paths cross once again after a 15-year estrangement.
Set in San Francisco, the film introduces Sasha (Ali Wong), a successful celebrity chef, and Marcus (Randall Park), a laid-back musician content with his simple life. When fate brings them back together, old sparks reignite, but their drastically different lifestyles threaten to keep them apart once more. The film beautifully explores how love can evolve over time and how people grow at different paces.
One of Always Be My Maybe’s standout features is its authentic portrayal of Asian-American culture, with humour and emotional depth woven into the story. And let’s not forget the scene-stealing cameo by Keanu Reeves, who plays an exaggerated version of himself, for just that extra bit of comedic value.
If Always Be My Maybe doesn’t quite fit the mood, don’t worry. Netflix has plenty more romantic offerings to suit every taste. Here are some other films to add to your Valentine’s Day Netflix list:
Your Place or Mine (2023)

It’s a heartwarming exploration of friendship, love, and self-discovery.

Gina Rodriguez plays Jenny, a music journalist who embarks on a wild night out with her best friends after a painful breakup. It’s a heartfelt and funny look at moving on, with an emphasis on the romance found in female friendship.

It’s a poignant story of freedom, identity, and the sacrifices we make for love.
Isn’t It Romantic (2019)
If you want a laugh-out-loud movie with a twist, Isn’t It Romantic is a perfect pick. Rebel Wilson stars as Natalie, an architect who wakes up in an alternate reality that’s essentially a romantic comedy come to life. With a dreamy love interest played by Liam Hemsworth and plenty of genre-bending humour, it’s a clever parody of rom-com tropes that will leave you smiling.

Rod Stewart’s saddest song was about split from Penny Lancaster | Music | Entertainment

Rod Stewart’s marriage to Penny Lancaster in 2007 has been a journey of love, challenges, and inspiration for his music. The couple, blessed with two children, faced a rocky period when Penny left Rod for two weeks.
During this time, Rod found solace in a photo of Penny, which he looked at every night and morning. In an emotional revelation to Australian magazine Life, the 76-year-old singer shared: “I covered Tom Waits’ Picture In A Frame.”
He added, “Penny and I broke up for two weeks and the song is about that time. I asked her for a photo of herself in a frame so that I could see her when I went to bed and when I woke up.”
Despite the brief separation, the couple mended their relationship and are now happily residing in Essex.
The experience moved Rod so deeply that he immortalised it in his album ‘Time’. Reflecting on his romantic history, Rod admitted to taking many risks but has since gleaned important lessons, such as honesty being key with women, who also dislike smoking and gambling, reports Essex Live.
He divulged his golden rule for a harmonious relationship: “My relationship rule is, ‘Don’t argue after a glass of wine – leave debating until the morning,'” and emphasised the importance of being a good listener rather than just having a ‘magic touch’.
The rockstar has opened up about his colourful love life, revealing that it was with Penny in his 50s when he finally came to a significant realisation: “I met Penny in my 50s and if I had not learnt by that point in my life I was never going to.”
The couple’s story goes back to the late 1990s, where Penny, then an emerging photographer, caught his eye while being commissioned to photograph him on tour. As Rod’s third wife and the fifth woman with whom he’s fathered children, Penny holds a special place.
His romantic history includes a five-year run with first wife Alana Hamilton starting in 1979, sharing two kids, followed by his former supermodel second wife Rachel Hunter from 1990-2006 with whom he has a daughter, Renee, 29, and son Liam, 27. There is also 34 year old daughter Ruby born of his relationship with Kelly Emberg, and daughter Sarah, 58, who was raised by his ex Susanna Boffey.
With the striking Penny, Rod celebrates life with sons Alastair, 16, and Aiden, 10. Despite past mistakes, it’s his time with Rachel that Rod acknowledges for teaching him vital relationship skills, insisting: “I became a good listener when I was with Rachel, something women appreciate. Up to that point, it was my way or the highway.”
Echoing bittersweet tones, the singer shared how “I married Rachel the same year my dad died, 1990. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. In the end I did both.”
In a final note of wisdom drawn from his own dad’s advice, Rod, who is approaching 77 years of age, has placed a firm family rule, prohibiting any of his eight children from marrying before 30, marking a stark contrast from his own journey down the aisle at 35.
Rod opened up about the complexities of fatherhood given the wide age range of his children. “I have to be several different fathers because of the different age groups of my kids,” he shared with PEOPLE, emphasising the importance of treating each child as an individual.
However, in a 2013 interview with USA Today, when asked what advice he would give to his younger self, he quipped: “Maybe keep your banana in the fruit bowl a little longer,” adding with a chuckle, “It has got me in a lot of trouble.”
