Queen Camilla’s pale grey outfit at Diana’s wedding was a ‘quiet rebellion’ – claim

married now- back in 1981, and the current Queen Consort was in the congregation watching the ceremony. , as she was known then, wore a pale grey dress to the service which many assumed was a white gown.

The leading wedding expert and editor of Hitched.co.uk, Zoe Burke, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the decision to wear white-related colours to weddings and why this is the “biggest sin you can commit”.

She commented: “Wearing white to a wedding is probably the biggest sin you can commit as a wedding guest – especially if it’s a floor-length, white lace number.

“Whilst Camilla had some white in her attire, she did offset it in a sombre-toned suit with a matching hat (the famous pillbox hat derided by Diana in the most recent series of The Crown – I never realised ‘pillbox’ could be said in such a scathing manner!).

“But some may also argue her dark clothing was too sober and funeral-like for a wedding. Going off the dress code and wearing colours that are traditionally frowned upon, such as white or black when not requested by the couple, is seen as a form of protest.

“And given what we know now, is it any wonder she made these choices?” the expert claimed.

Ms Burke argued that Camilla may not have done this on purpose, however.

She explained: “Camilla may not have been familiar with wedding guest etiquette of course (it can be a bit of a minefield).

“But if the love of your life who you were not permitted to marry invited you to their wedding to someone else, you may well be tempted to stage a quiet rebellion.”

DON’T MISS:

Queen Elizabeth II later wore a white outfit to then-Prince Charles’ church blessing to Camilla after their royal wedding, because the late monarch famously refused to attend the wedding itself.

Ms Agnew spoke about this decision: “I have always thought this was an odd choice by Her Majesty, although I do think she looked lovely.

“The ensemble was most likely designed by Angela Kelly. She probably wore it purely because she liked it.

“Given it was both Charles and Camilla’s second marriages, there are usually less strict rules about those sorts of things!”

Roman’s summer collection is full of feminine prints and lightweight fabrics, and shoppers are loving it. Among the pieces, this Navy Floral Print Frill Detail Midi Dress has earned a stellar 4.8 out of five star-rating from online reviews.

The navy and white ensemble is crafted from 100% viscose with an all-over floral print, perfect for the warmer months. It retails at £38 but with code SHINE, shoppers can get it at £34.20 for a limited time.

The midi dress also features delicate short frill sleeves for a bit of arm coverage, and a V-neckline trimmed with frill details. The shirred waist and tiered hem deliver a flattering silhouette and add movement.

Coast sells a similar Printed Tie Waist Midi Wrap Dress from Izabel London, £40, and the tie-waist detail offers flexibility, allowing the wearer to adjust the fit.

Roman shoppers have left positive feedback for the Navy Floral Print Frill Detail Midi Dress, one bought the piece for a holiday and said: “True to the picture, comfortable style.”

A second loved having the option to dress it up or down, sharing: “Perfect for my son’s graduation and so comfortable to wear all day. Worn with jacket and heels for the ceremony and with trainers for a more casual look later in the day.”

Despite the flattering fit and flare style, some customers said the dress is ‘too long’ as one detailed: “Pretty dress with nice cool material, unfortunately it is far too long for me at 5ft 2ins. Advertised as midi length but was more floor length maxi.”

Another also mentioned the dress length, penning: “Great dress. Too long for me but had it shortened. Lovely style and otherwise fitted very well.”

Others poured in top reviews about the dress and one said she “loves the length of the dress it is”, adding: “This dress is so easy to wear. Fits like a dream. And folds up to take a tiny space in a suitcase. It feels very elegant and suitable for daywear, or smart , evening wear. One point, it’s maxi, not midi.”

For a casual summer dress that is as versatile as Roman’s dress, shoppers can also consider the Next Navy Blue Floral Pleated Mesh Print V-Neck Occasion Midi Dress, £69, for fancy dinners or holidays. The Roman Navy Floral Print Dress is available to purchase for £34.20 with code SHINE.

Holiday scent Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess has 25% off

As a beauty editor, I’ve tried hundreds of perfumes in the search for my perfect scent, but there is one I always reach for when the sun comes out. The Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche Skinscent smells like summer in a bottle – one sniff and you’ll be whisked away somewhere beachy and warm. It currently has 25% off at Lookfantastic.com, meaning you can buy a 50ml bottle for just £43.50 (a lot cheaper than an actual holiday!)

Whenever I wear it, which is most days for six months of the year, my son says that I “smell like sun cream”. Nothing has the force to make me viscerally reminisce about balmy days at the beach like the Bronze Goddess scent. Mentally, I’m in Ibiza enjoying an Aperol spritz on the balcony; physically, however, I am about to hit the school run. But a girl can dream!

Although it was launched years ago, this iconic scent still holds a place of pride in my fragrance wardrobe. With notes of amber, coconut milk, and sandalwood, a vanilla base, and a hint of citrus, it’s a concoction that I never tire of, and it always guarantees compliments.

Usually lighter, summery perfumes don’t go the distance, but the Bronze Goddess Skinscent lingers surprisingly well. It settles nicely on the skin, and I catch little whiffs of it throughout the day, which I love. You don’t need much at all, but I always top it up before an evening out, just to keep it feeling fresh.

I recently discovered the nighttime version called Bronze Goddess Nuit. It has a slightly stronger and sexier smell, with bergamot, ylang ylang, and pepper alongside classic notes of coconut and jasmine found in the original. It’s perfect for layering over the Skinscent that is still hovering on my skin from applying it in the morning.

For some, perfume is just the frill at the end of their beauty routine, but for me, Bronze Goddess is a time machine transporting me back to the beach. Want to come, too?

67-year-old Andie MacDowell swears by this £9 face sunscreen

Andie MacDowell looks incredible, doesn’t she? The actress and model, 67, took to the 78th Cannes Film Festival red carpet this week wearing a slinky slip dress, but what caught my attention was her glowing, natural-looking skin.

She attributes her youthful complexion in part to wearing a high-factor sunscreen. “Because I’m always outdoors, I slather the stuff on. I am so conscious of it and I try to protect my skin every way that I can,” she said in an interview with Sheer Luxe.

She wears L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Clinical Vitamin C UV Fluid SPF 50+. “I love the texture – it’s dense and really covers you, but it doesn’t look ghostly, nor do you see it on the skin.”

Shoppers who want to try the product for themselves can currently get it for less than half price. At the time of writing, it’s £9 at Amazon and Superdrug, down from £19.99.

The formula contains a high SPF and vitamin C, an effective, glow-giving antioxidant. This type of formulation can sometimes have a bad rep for being overly greasy. However, I’ve tried the SPF, and I found it to have a featherlight texture that disappeared into my skin quickly, with no slick residue.

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star has been a Loréal ambassador for nearly 40 years, but the product has garnered rave reviews with shoppers in the UK  “I love that it contains SPF 50+ so it’s protecting my skin as well as restoring it. I can already see a difference in my skin’s tone, and my makeup seems to last longer,” said one customer.

Another said: “I keep going back to this!! I love it, gives my face a glow without too much shine and provides excellent moisturising whilst protecting from the harmful effects of the sun.”

However, one shopper was less impressed: “It’s fine, it seems to pill a little bit even on bare skin so I’m not overly impressed with it. The bottle is also teeny tiny! Wish I’d have just stuck to normal suncream.”

Andie has also said that she uses Loréal’s Age Perfect Le Duo Age Defying Serum, currently down from £37.99 to around £20 on Amazon. It houses two serums in one pump, which claim to tackle fine lines, even-out skin texture and revive dull complexions.

She joins a growing number of celebrities who are completely unapologetic about ageing in the spotlight. “There is a beauty to ageing that we don’t recognise. Often we diminish women because they have lines or wrinkles, which is the normal process of ageing,” she said via her Facebook.

“I’m so grateful to represent women of a certain age,” she continued.
