Russia has suffered another huge setback after a weapons depot supplying the country’s Black Sea Fleet was hit by a missile strike.

Images circulating on social media show a thick plume of smoke billowing into the sky following the devastating strike in Tsukrovaya Golovka, near occupied-Sevastopol.

A Russian soldier was injured in the strike

Telegram channel ASTRA reported that more than 350 police officers had to be evacuated from the nearby Internal Affairs Ministry buildings in Sevastopol as a result.

Explosions were also reported in the Bakhchisaray district from the direction of Sevastopol on October 18.

Russian security forces’ confidence in their ability to protect “this large and vulnerable structure” will continue to be threatened by the “ingenuity” of Ukraine’s military, the report continued.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has made progress in its counteroffensive after crossing the Dnipro river.

Kyiv’s soldiers were able to set up positions on the opposite bank as they try and push the Russians back in southern Ukraine.

Pro-Kremlin military bloggers said Kyiv’s troops had created a bridgehead and were pushing toward the nearby town of Pishchanivka.

The town is south of a destroyed railway bridge and upriver from Antonivk.

The Ukrainians would have to make dangerous crossings through water to attack the Russians.

US President Donald Trump has been criticised for his choice of words in his message announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for the rest of the ceasefire.

Mehdi Hasan, a British-American journalist, highlighted with a comment on X how the American president used a different name for the Strait of Hormuz, saying his words looked like “total capitulation”.

Hasa said: “Trump just publicly referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the ‘Strait of Iran’. Not only does this look like total capitulation from his administration but I am trying to imagine the GOP/Fox response if Joe Biden had said this.”

This came after Israeli journalist and close ally of Benjamin Netanyahu, Yinon Magal, said: “Trump Surrenders to Iran.”

Mr Trump published several posts on Truth Social following the announcement from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghici who said the Strait of Hormuz was “declared completely open” for the “remaining period of ceasefire”.

Mr Trump said: “IRAN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THE STRAIT OF IRAN IS FULLY OPEN AND READY FOR FULL PASSAGE. THANK YOU!” In a separate post, however, he also said: “BUT THE NAVAL BLOCKADE WILL REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS IT PERTAINS TO IRAN, ONLY, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE.

“THIS PROCESS SHOULD GO VERY QUICKLY IN THAT MOST OF THE POINTS ARE ALREADY NEGOTIATED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! PRESIDENT DONALD J.TRUMP”. In one of his messages he referred to the Strait of Hormuz to ‘Strait of Iran’.

The US President also took the chance to criticise again his NATO allies, including the UK. He said the announcement regarding the strait “feels good,” but also added it was “too bad” he didn’t have help from NATO which he called a “paper tiger”.

As Dan Rivers, ITV US correspondent, revealed, Mr Trump also said relationship with the UK and British PM Keir Starmer are “not good, not good at all”.

Taking on Truth Social again, the American President further dismissed European efforts in another message. He said: “Now that the Hormuz Strait situation is over, I received a call from NATO asking if we would need some help. I TOLD THEM TO STAY AWAY, UNLESS THEY JUST WANT TO LOAD UP THEIR SHIPS WITH OIL. They were useless when needed, a Paper Tiger! President DJT”

PM Keir Starmer said he would “do everything I can” to alleviate the impact of the Iran war on the public and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Asked what the point of Friday’s meeting with fellow leaders in Paris was, the Prime Minister told reporters: “It is very important that we build a coalition of countries around the principle that the ceasefire should be permanent, there should be a deal, and that the Strait of Hormuz is open.

“It is in all of our interests to do that, because what’s happening in the war in Iran is affecting each of our economies.

Brazen Russia ‘breaches NATO airspace’ as Putin’s forces pummel Ukraine | World | News

A Russian drone has reportedly breached the airspace of a NATO country during an overnight bombardment targeting Ukraine. Romania’s Defence Ministry said its air defences identified two targets in the border area of Tulcea county during attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, one of which entered its airspace.

The ministry said it lost contact with the target over an uninhabited area in what it called “a serious violation of the norms of international law. It said in a statement: “One of the targets entered the airspace of our country, the radar contact with it being lost 16 km southeast of Chilia Veche over an uninhabited area.

“We strongly condemn the actions of the Russian Federation that endanger regional security, constituting a serious violation of the norms of international law”

A team has been sent to investigate the area following the alert, which began just after midnight local time on Friday and ended at 2.48am.

Tulcea is directly across the border from the Ukrainian port of Izmail, which has been a target for Russian attacks, and is bordered by the River Danube.

Emergency alerts were sent out across northern parts of Tulcea just after 3.45am local time on Tuesday, and ended about an hour later.

The country’s Ministry of National Defence said: “Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force from the Air Police Combat Service took off from the 86th Air Base in Fetești, and the air defence systems were put into firing positions.

The government confirmed that none of the Russian drones breached Romanian airspace.

Ukrainian authorities said Russia “massively attacked” civilian and port infrastructure, damaging facilities at Izmail and a Panamanian-flagged ship. There were no casualties.
