Apple-made Beats earbuds are less than £100 for a limited time

Apple’s AirPods remain among the most popular true wireless earbuds on the market, but Apple also owns another brand that makes competing headphones that could be a better fit and better price for you.

Beats, which is Apple-owned, makes several fitness-first products including the Beats Fit Pro, a set of wireless earbuds with many of the same perks as AirPods but a much more secure wingtip design. If that sounds like a good thing, the best news is the Beats Fit Pro are currently on sale for just £99, which is less than half price.

The buds’ RRP is £219.99, making this £99 offer a great deal. A glance at the Amazon price tracker site Camelcamelcamel shows the Fit Pro were on sale for this same £99 for Black Friday, going back up to £199.99 just before this current sale. Amazon says this is a “limited time deal”, so it’s not clear how long the discount will last.

The Beats Fit Pro have recently been superseded by the newer Beats Powerbeats Fit, with the main difference being the Powerbeats Fit have an updated design and smaller charging case.

If you like the sound of in-ear Apple-made earbuds for less than £100 though, the Beats Fit Pro is an excellent choice.

I’ve tested the Beats Fit Pro and found a pair of buds ideal for running. The flexible wingtip on each bud means you can tuck them securely in your ears and exercise without far of them falling out. Seriously, they are going nowhere.

The in-ear design is paired with active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes like you’ll find on AirPods Pro models, as well as the same Apple H1 chip that allows automatic switching between Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV) as well as Audio Sharing (with other Beats headphones or AirPods), and Siri voice activation.

But the great thing about Beats is, unlike Apple, they also offer quick pairing with Android phones, and you can tweak some settings via the official Beats app.

The Beats Fit Pro has a solid, bass-first sound that I really like. It suits most music genres such as hip hop, rock and pop, though classical music fans might want to go for a more neutral earbud.

Beats says you’ll get six hours of sound from a fully charge set of buds, while the charging case offers up to 24 hours overall when it is fully juiced up. One annoyance is that the case is quite large, and does not support wireless charging – you need to plug in a USB-C cable to charge.

Amazon has the Beats Fit Pro in white or grey for £99, and you don’t need an Amazon Prime subscription to get that price.

This Google Pixel deal is too good to miss but won’t last long

Black Friday has come and gone but it turns out one of the best smartphone deals has waited until now to show up, courtesy of UK retailer Currys. The high street favourite has discounted one of the best Android phones of 2024 down to an almost unbelievably good price – but we don’t expect the deal to last long.

Right now, you can buy the Google Pixel 9 from Currys for £399, an astonishing saving of £300 from its usual £699 selling price. It’s also cheaper than rival retailers Amazon and Argos are selling the Pixel 9 for at the time of writing, at £499 and £599 respectively.

The Currys deal is for the Obsidian model of the Pixel 9, which is the black colour. Other colours were out of stock or priced higher, so it’s Obsidian or nothing, leading us to believe this could be a flash sale on the phone that might be to sell out the old stock – don’t expect this price to hang around for very long.

The Pixel 9 was released in 2024 but is still a stellar phone today thanks to being fully upgradable to Android 16 with a 6.3-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, dual 50MP/48MP cameras, a large 4,700mAh battery, Google Tensor G4 processor and software updates guaranteed until 2031.

The phone has 128GB storage, which should be enough for most people for a few years – unfortunately there’s no microSD slot for expandable storage and, as with all Pixel phones, there is only one SIM slot. Thankfully an extra SIM is possible via eSIM compatibility.

The phone is also stuffed with handy AI and software tools such as Magic Eraser to remove people or objects from photos, as well as call screening, note taking and writing tools and a clever Pixel Screenshots app that can automatically summarise and categorise your chaotic screenshots.

As with all Pixel phones the main camera is outstanding, and you can record in 4K 60FPS with the front and rear cameras.

Throw in a reliable fingerprint sensor and a bold design with full IP68 dust and water resistance and you have a real bargain for £399 – a phone that could last you for several years.

Head over to see the deal at Currys and see if the retailer still has stock on what has got to be one of the best phone deals of the year.

Virgin Media gives its TV customers yet another free channel upgrade

CHANNEL TODAY BROADCASTING CORPORATION

Virgin Media is continuing its recent run of adding new content to its TV products at no extra cost to subscribers, announcing the launch of two more channels as part of its range of FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) offerings/

From today, if you have a Virgin V6, Virgin TV360 or Stream set-top box nestled under your telly, you can tune in to Stingray Classica on channel 296 and Stingray DJAZZ on channel 297.

Stingray Classica is a channel dedicated to the broadcast of classical music, opera and ballet, with Virgin stating it includes 50 world premiers each year from various concert halls, festivals and famous opera houses from around the world. You can also expect documentaries and other programmes around this musical world.

Stingray DJAZZ meanwhile is dedicated to the jazz genre, with concerts, films and documentaries from jazz festivals. Virgin said the channel will also host artist profiles, interviews and reports from backstage.

Virgin Media has spent the past 12 months giving customers new channels, including British Screen Classics, U&Transport, Inside Crime and Haunt TV. Last month, the firm opened up access to its Ultra HD channel (channel 175) for the month of December to all customers, and just last week announced the launch of streaming service Tubi on its platform, also available to new and existing subscribers.

“We are launching two brand new FAST channels to give our customers even more of the best entertainment Virgin TV has to offer,” said David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2.

“We’re always looking to offer our customers handpicked channels to broaden our offering which is why we’ve added two more to the mix. From classical music to jazz concerts and artist interviews, the new channels offer something for all music fans to enjoy!”

To find your new channels, head to the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) using your Virgin remote where they should appear automatically in the channel list.

FAST channels allow Virgin to add linear-style programming to its roster at no extra cost to customers. They sit alongside traditional linear TV and ad-supported on-demand services like Tubi that offer an alternative to more popular on-demand services such as Netflix.

Despite the recent flurry of new channel additions, Virgin Media O2 said it would continue to add more in the coming months to “provide customers with even greater choice, at no extra cost.”
