Samsung wants to buy your BROKEN old phone for £200

You could turn your ageing and broken old phones into cash, thanks to the latest offer from Samsung.
That’s because it is giving away when you take advantage of its trade-in offers on the all-new Galaxy Z Flip range. All you have to do is hand over an existing smartphone – it can be any brand, any model, and most importantly, any condition – and Samsung will discount its new Galaxy Z Flip 5 by a guaranteed minimum of £200.
But the deal isn’t around forever. The offer only lasts until September 5 so you’ll only have a couple weeks from the time of writing until you can get money towards a brand new phone.
The best thing is that’s not the only deal that Samsung is offering. You’ll also get 12 months of Disney+ for completely free which is great if you love to stream the latest Marvel and Disney shows. It comes just as Disney announced a price rise to the subscription fee in the UK, so you’ll be able to avoid that annoying price rise.
If you’d rather buy your new Galaxy Z Flip 5 on a pay monthly contract, the biggest UK mobile carriers are slowly revealing their preorder deals for the new foldable. And there are some stellar packages available.
It’s worth noting that regardless of whether you buy the Galaxy Z Flip 5 direct from Samsung or with a pay monthly contract from EE, Three, O2, Vodafone, Sky Mobile, or others …you’ll still be able to claim the 6-month free subscription to Disney+.
To make comparing the latest Galaxy Z Flip 5 deals easier, we’ve picked plans with roughly 20-30GB of 5G mobile data allowance each month.
For our money, that’s more than enough to stream music from Spotify, watch a few clips on YouTube or TikTok, upload snaps to Instagram, and answer WhatsApp video calls away from Wi-Fi.
Those who use their phone to tether to a laptop to work when away from a wireless broadband connection will need a little more data, while those who are permanently connected to their home, office, or public Wi-Fi networks might need a little less. This data allowance can be tweaked when you get to checkout. However, 20-30GB is a good middle ground that should suit most use cases.

Apple confirms new iPhone feature that Formula 1 fans won’t want to miss

The Formula One season is revving up to be one of the most thrilling in years. F1 stars Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and George Russell are all contenders for the title in 2025, with just a few points separating these top four drivers. It’s already been a stellar start to the season, and to add to the excitement, we’re about to begin another triple header of races, including a trip to the iconic streets of Monaco.
It’s one of the toughest but most glamorous events of the year, and those lucky enough to have bagged a ticket to the French Riviera might want to check their iPhone for a very useful update.
It’s just been confirmed that Apple has added its “Detailed City Experience” to Monaco, which now shows landmarks in far more detail.
This Maps service is already available in cities such as San Francisco, London and Paris and now there’s another way to explore the globe thanks to this update.
Apple says the change has been introduced in the lead-up to the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco 2025. It’s also been released in the run-up to F1 The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, which arrives in cinemas next month.
So what’s new?
From today, when pulling up Monaco in Apple Maps, the Detailed City Experience shows custom-designed 3D Monégasque landmarks of iconic locations, including Casino de Monte-Carlo, Fairmont Monte Carlo, Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Yacht Club de Monaco, and the F1 Paddock Club. There’s even a dark mode, which gives users an evening view of Monaco in a moonlit glow that activates at dusk.
In time for the upcoming Grand Prix de Monaco, Apple Maps is also offering users, attendees, and F1 fans an in-depth way to explore and enjoy the race.
The famous racetrack will be highlighted in Maps, and includes details like markers for each of the circuit’s iconic turns, along with 3D representations of grandstands, footbridges, the finish line, and more. Maps will also share advisories like road closures to help attendees get around as seamlessly as possible.
“Apple Maps is the best way to navigate and explore the world, so we’re excited to bring this amazing experience to F1 fans and attendees of the Grand Prix de Monaco,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services.
“Whether fans are there in person or watching from afar, the beautifully designed Detailed City Experience and Monaco Grand Prix features give them an incredible view into Monaco, just in time for the race and the upcoming premiere of F1 The Movie.”
The Monaco update isn’st all. Apple also say that, in celebration of next month’s release of Apple Original Films’ F1 The Movie, Maps users can also explore a custom Guide featuring the world’s most iconic F1 racetracks, including Monaco and other tracks featured in the film.

Amazon is dishing out Samsung tablets for hundreds less than an iPad

Though iPads are great, the cheapest Amazon is selling a model from the current range at the time of writing is for £313 (though you can get the older 10th-gen iPad for £269).
If you need a new tablet to stream videos on Netflix, browse the web in Chrome or make video calls to friends and family, you might want to check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9.
Right now, there is a ‘limited time deal’ on the tablet, which means we also don’t know how long the price will last, but it’s an amazing price of £81.71, 52 percent less than the usual price of £169.
This gets you the 8.7-inch screen tablet with 64GB storage, front and rear facing cameras and a 5,100mAh battery that should last you a full day of use. It’s also only 8mm thick, so should disappear in a bag easily enough.
As this is a more affordable tablet, you don’t get top tier specs. The display is a 60Hz LCD, so doesn’t have a high refresh rate, but that shouldn’t matter if you’re mainly watching films, reading emails, calling up websites or reading books on your e-book app of choice.
All this is easy to do on the Galaxy Tab A9 as it runs Android, so you can download any Android app from the Google Play Store. From Kindle to Candy Crush, Spotify to Zoom, this tablet is a good way to get the apps you need for a very low price.
That said, the A9 has quite an underpowered processor, so don’t expect to play triple A games on it, and you should also expect to see a fair amount of lag if you’re trying to multitask or quickly switch between apps.
But if you just want an inexpensive tablet to stream YouTube on the sofa or call your friends on Google Meet, it should do the trick. Maybe just stick to one app at a time, even if Samsung’s tablet software lets you split-screen and run two apps at once.
If you want to plug in headphones then, unlike any modern iPad, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack. You also get Bluetooth for hooking up any wireless set of headphones.
The relatively small 8.7-inch tablet isn’t going to win any performance awards but if you’re after a sub-£100 Android tablet for casual or light use, this is certainly an excellent price.

Watch out Sonos and Bose – Sony teases ‘exciting’ headphone upgrade coming tomorrow

There aren’t many tech brands with a reputation as good as Sony’s when it comes to over-ear noise cancelling headphones, so the Japanese firm’s rivals will be looking over their shoulders tomorrow.
Sony has sent out teasers on social media, like the post on X below, with the time and date of 5pm BST on May 15, 2025. The image looks like it shows the cups and headband of a new set of over-ear headphones:
Sony also sent out emails to its newsletter subscribers with the image, saying:
“An exciting new product announcement from Sony – set a reminder to watch it live on YouTube!”
You can watch the announcement at 5pm UK time tomorrow on Sony’s YouTube channel:
Though unconfirmed, this announcement is very likely to unveil the latest WH-1000XM series headphones, the successor to the WH-1000XM5 released in 2022 – if it is, we’ll be very surprised if Sony doesn’t name them the WH-1000XM6, as the sixth version.
Sonos, Bose, Apple and the rest will be a little worried. Though these firms Ace, QuietComfort, and AirPods Max products respectively challenge Sony’s XM series for best noise cancelling over-ear headphones sales, Sony is certainly a frontrunner. The company has waited three years to, potentially, update its flagship headphones, and we could see them launched tomorrow.
The WH-1000XM5 were widely praised by tech reviewers and customers alike for their superior noise cancelling powers and great sound quality. However some fans disliked the fact the headphones had no hinges on their arms to fold away for storage, unlike previous versions. If Sony does update these cans tomorrow, it’ll be interesting to see if they revert to a folding design.
I love using the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones for their all-round excellence, comfort and folding design, but also Bose’s clever Immersive Audio setting that can create spatial audio from any audio. We’ll have to wait and see if this Sony headphone launch brings any similar new chops to sway buyers away from the competition.
