Stop Them Dead review: Roy Grace at the centre of canine capers | Books | Entertainment

Thus we have the basis for the latest Peter James Roy Grace crime thriller. Tim Ruddle and his wife became fed up living in London and bought a farm in Sussex.

The Ruddles begin breeding dogs but one night a gang arrive in the middle of the night to steal their new litter.

Tim Ruddle is woken by the noise of vehicles in his yard and when he goes down to investigate he is crushed to death by two vehicles.

Grace and the team become involved in investigating the murder.

Grace and his second wife Cleo are interested in getting another dog and take their young son Noah to see a puppy. However, alarm bells ring when the Graces go to see a new potential pup.

A few books back, I was convinced that Roy’s German son Bruno was going to kill Humphrey, the Graces’ black lab.

When Bruno was killed, I was happy that Humphrey would be safe.

Some time after Bruno’s death, Peter James told me that one thing his readers would not accept was cruelty to animals.

Peter James does have a talent for creating grotesque characters and in this book, it is Gecko who likes to place live spiders in his mouth to shock and scare people.

Gecko works for Terry Jim, a thug who owns a farm, and is the head of a crime family.

He sells puppies that he has illegally imported from Eastern Europe.

His stepdaughter is a kennel maid along with two other young girls. The three are suspicious of Jim’s behaviour and one, a Ukrainian, disappears.

The third, Lindsay Cheetham, decides to contact the police but does Jim know of her plan?

To add to the drama, Bluebell Fairfax, the young daughter of a local lawyer pesters her parents for a puppy and they buy one from a man in a pub car park.

As she admires the dogs, one of them nips her on the nose but it is only a scratch – isn’t it?

While Roy tries to find out who killed Tim Ruddle, crime strikes the Graces closer to home and can Bluebell survive a disease that hasn’t been seen in Britain for more than a hundred years?

Peter James writes big books – this one has 447 pages – but the story zips by and Stop Them Dead is no exception.

In the story arc, Sandy Grace, Roy’s first wife, vanishes before the story begins but now we can find out what happened to her in the next book Sandy’s Story.

I am looking forward to seeing if my latest theory will pan out. I got Humphrey wrong so, please, no one put any money on it but I reckon Roy wasn’t Bruno’s father but the boy was sired by Roy’s bitter enemy Cassian Pewe.

We know he had an affair with Sandy and when she vanished, he ordered the Graces’ garden to be dug up.

Harry Styles enthusiasts spent the opening months of 2026 scrambling for tickets to his forthcoming Together Together Tour. Beginning in May, the former One Direction singer will be performing more than 50 shows across the globe. Throughout this period, the 32-year-old will be hitting London’s Wembley Stadium for no fewer than 12 performances. And that’s in addition to the 30 gigs at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

As a result, many British fans were left disappointed when the majority of Harry Styles’ shows were sold out in no time. And, although fans may feel a little trapped because the UK has just the single location to see the Watermelon Sugar star, all hope isn’t lost just yet. There are a few other arenas and stadiums around the world where the star is playing – some of which are closer than one might expect. And tickets are still available for some of them, as well.

Resale tickets and viagogo

Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.

We’ve searched through all the resale platforms and identified where to secure the most affordable tickets to see Harry Styles this year.

And, unexpectedly, the cheapest destinations aren’t London or New York, despite their substantial number of scheduled concerts.

Out of the dozens of Harry Styles performances, the priciest tickets are being offered at his New York dates. Some of these are currently listed at approximately £400 each – and beyond.

By contrast, the current cheapest tickets at London’s Wembley Stadium are available at £89 each. This is roughly the face value for the furthest seats back, so this could be far worse.

However, for the really affordable tickets, fans ought to look at shows in Amsterdam.

Harry Styles is performing ten shows at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruijff ArenA in May, and these concerts signal the first leg of his tour.

Certain tickets are available for as little as £67 each. Others remain affordably priced too, with many listed for approximately £70 to £80 each.

Therefore, for fans keen to grab a bargain – and perhaps enjoy a little holiday in the process – a quick flight to Amsterdam could prove extremely worthwhile.

Shockingly, there are even more budget-friendly options for Harry Styles fans.

Unfortunately, there is a catch. The absolute cheapest Harry Styles tickets can be purchased for £59 each, but they’re only available at his performances at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros.

Given that flights alone would significantly increase these costs, Amsterdam’s concerts appear to offer the best overall value.

Below we’ve compiled every venue, date and location for Harry Styles’ forthcoming performances, alongside their lowest-priced tickets, all sourced from resale platform viagogo.

Before that, however, we’ve gathered all the ticketing links fans may require:

‘Exquisite’ period drama based on beloved book on BBC iPlayer now | Films | Entertainment

CHANNEL TODAY BROADCASTING CORPORATION

A stellar cast featuring Cate Blanchett, Minnie Driver, Rupert Everett, Julianne Moore and Jeremy Northam brings to life a British film adaptation of a beloved classic work.

Released in 1999, Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband garnered critical acclaim and box office success.

The film earned multiple award nominations and was chosen as the closing night selection at that year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Contemporary critics praise its wit – with Everett delivering most of the memorable quips – along with its lavish period settings and costumes, and viewers can judge for themselves as it’s currently streaming on BBC iPlayer.

Sir Robert Chiltern (Northam) is an esteemed Member of Parliament at the dawn of the 20th century, but his world threatens to unravel due to the scheming interference of Lady Markby (Lindsay Duncan).

She reacquaints his wife, the principled Lady Gertrude Chiltern (Blanchett), with a former school rival, Mrs Laura Cheveley (Moore), who blackmails her husband into backing a new bill or facing public disgrace, reports the Mirror.

It emerges that Robert isn’t quite as virtuous as he appears, having amassed his wealth by revealing a cabinet secret – something his devoted wife knew nothing about.

He seeks counsel from his companion Lord Arthur Goring (Everett), an apparently frivolous yet sharp-witted gentleman who urges him to come clean to his wife. The narrative becomes increasingly intricate with betrayal, misunderstandings and extortion.

Devoted Wilde enthusiasts will spot several departures from the original 1895 stage production.

A sequence involving Mrs Cheveley’s brooch has been cut, whilst the conclusion is more complex due to a wager between two principal characters.

Critics gave the film a largely positive reception upon release, with it grossing £2.9 million at the UK box office and £11.2 million across the US and Canada. It boasts an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where its sharp humour and visual splendour are highlighted.

One cinema fan said: “It’s lavish, clever entertainment, a welcome opportunity to laugh without shame.”

Another added: “The exquisite teamwork and byplay make the film such a delight to watch.”

A third wrote: “Charming, delightful, comical at times, interesting at others, this film is drenched in beautiful settings and costumes, witty dialogue, and a great cast of actors in their top form,” they wrote.

An Ideal Husband is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.

Assassin’s Creed fans about to get news they’ve been waiting for | Gaming | Entertainment

Arguably the best Assassin’s Creed game is set to make a comeback courtesy of an upcoming remake for current-gen consoles and PC.

After a divisive third mainline entry, Ubisoft upped its game with the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in 2013.

The game was praised for its story, characters and setting, not to mention the introduction of sailing elements that would inspire the eventual release of Skull and Bones.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was so well received that fans have been calling for a remake for years.

If the latest reports are to be believed, then fans are finally about to get the news they’ve been waiting for, as Ubisoft gets ready to announce a current-gen version of the popular action-adventure game.

According to Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw on a recent podcast, the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake should be announced at some point in April.

This means we’re just over a month away from seeing footage from the latest remake from Ubisoft.

It’s believed the Black Flag remake will launch in 2027, although exact dates are likely to be revealed when the game is officially announced by Ubisoft.

In terms of what fans can expect from the game, the remake is almost certain to feature improved visuals and frame-rates, not to mention various quality of life upgrades.

There are also rumours of new content, as well as changes to the map and the same weather system used in AC Shadows.

The original Black Flag sees players take control of pirate Captain Edward Kenway.

It features appearances from famous pirates like Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and takes place in locations such as Havana, Nassau, and Kingston.

“You are Captain Edward Kenway, a pirate among assassins,” reads the official description.

“Set sail for a unique adventure in the Caribbean where you will live by your own rules, explore uncharted islands and discover the gritty life of the legendary outlaws of the 18th century.”
