The Beatles Now and Then music video reunites the Fab Four in unseen footage | Music | Entertainment

Yesterday the final Beatles song Now and Then, which Express.co.uk reviewed, was released thanks to the wonders of modern technology.
John Lennon’s vocals from before his 1980 death were mixed together with George Harrison’s 1995 guitar and finished by Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr in 2023 to complete their last track together as the Fab Four.
If that wasn’t enough of a treat, Peter Jackson (who directed The Beatles: Get Back) has this afternoon released the official music video for Now and Then, which is full of surprises that were well worth the wait.
Recording sessions from the mid-1990s when the project was originally abandoned are depicted, plus previously unseen footage of The Beatles.
But nothing had fans prepared for what would come next.
Sir Paul and Sir Ringo are captured singing Now and Then together before younger versions of the late Lennon and Harrison join them to perform together as The Beatles one last time.
It’s simultaneously touching and emotional, with young McCartney and Starr also joining in the fun later on.
The whole thing ends with a bow from their Ed Sullivan Show debut before the Fab Four fade away for the final time; a touching goodbye to the best-selling band in history.
Reflecting on his Now and Then music video, Jackson said: “[I found] a collection of unseen outtakes in the vault, where the Beatles are relaxed, funny and rather candid. We wove humour into some footage shot in 2023. The result is pretty nutty and provided the video with much-needed balance between the sad and the funny.
“I realised we needed the imagination of every viewer to create their own personal moment of farewell to The Beatles”.
The Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings director concluded by saying he had “genuine pride” in the finished footage, which was his first-ever music video “and I’ll cherish that for years to come”.

The one incredible thing Foo Fighters always do backstage before a gig | UK | News

Hell raising rock legends Foo Fighters have revealed how they have ditched downing tequila before shows and instead prepare to hit the stage by playing with Lego. Frontman Dave Grohl admits his one time addiction to drink and drugs has been replaced with a craving to make structures out of the tiny plastic bricks beloved by children worldwide.
“Not very rock ‘n’ roll, is it?” admits the drummer turned frontman before revealing how he has enjoyed constructing the Eiffel Tower, the White House “and several Harry Potter castles” prior to hitting the world’s biggest stages. Grohl added: “There is something sort of meditative about the process. You can just turn your brain off and follow the instructions. It’s like Ikea furniture. I’ve built a lot of Ikea furniture in my time and you feel so proud.” Yet despite the Lego addiction the former Nirvana star admits cocktails do still start flowing an hour before show time.

He added: “Then the laughter gets a little louder, and the music gets a little louder and, just before we walk on stage, we’re having the best time of our lives, so we hit the stage with a smile.
“It sounds so ridiculous, but to me, that’s the most important part. There’s no faking it in this band. You get on stage and you have those few hours to do it – and you’ve got to do it for real.”
“I’m 57 years old, but there are still times where I feel like the little punk I was at 13. I can still connect with that side of myself where I can scream and we can thrash, and it feels good.”
Grohl revealed the band’s Lego addiction in a BBC interview to promote the bands 12th album, Your Favourite Toy.
He has described the record as a “powder keg”, as “burning diesel”, and even a spicy “jambalaya” as the alt rockers return to their heavier sound.

The band played a series of low-key warm-up shows in the UK and Ireland earlier this year and return for two mammoth shows at Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium this summer as they continue to rock out following the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022 with new stickman Ilan Rubin.
Bass player Nate Mendal admitted: “We are a different band. Taylor was such an energetic presence, he just brought himself so much.”
After Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room, hours before a concert, Mendel admits he thought the band were finished.
“We talk about Taylor every day,” he said. “I was like, ‘Can we still do this without Taylor?’, and I’m sure everyone else felt that, too.
“But one thing that I’ve come to realise – this sounds a little hokey, but it’s true – is that Taylor is with us. His wife is on the road with us right now. We’re still very close to the Hawkins family. We talk about him every day.”

Grohl adds: “Continuing as a band was not easy. We were like best friends and brothers – so it was really complicated and felt really strange for a little while.
“When you go through any sort of trauma or loss, you have to do everything all over again. So the next day, that’s the first cup of coffee since it happened. Then it’s the first song we’ve written since it happened.
“But whenever we go through something really difficult, we go through it together, with our families and our kids and our wives. We really rally.
“And if you’re surrounded by people that you know you can really rely on, that’s the key.”

Michael Jackson movie biopic Part 2 release date teased by studio | Films | Entertainment

The Michael Jackson biopic arrives on the big screen this week, but what might surprise some fans is where it ends.
Michael only goes up to the Bad Tour in the late 1980s after a 2 hour runtime and teases that his “Story Continues”, confirming the rumour that this new film is only Part 1 of a possible film trilogy.
The original cut was 3 hours and 30 minutes so there’s plenty of footage left over for the rumoured Part 2.
Covering the 1990s and 2000s would mean a sequel would need to address the 1993 child abuse allegations, which Jackson settled out of court, and 2005 trial for which he was acquitted on all counts.
Meanwhile, producer Graham King reportedly told Lionsgate that Michael Part 2 would focus on Jackson’s albums Dangerous (1991), Invincible (2001), the construction of the Neverland Ranch and “his love of animals”.
As for a release date, Lionsgate CFO Jim Barge mentioned “Michael 2” on three separate occasions during a recent session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference. The sequel came up during his discussion of the studio’s upcoming theatrical slate. MJVibe, who initially reported the news with an audio clip, assessed that “if Barge’s remarks reflect Lionsgate’s internal planning, Michael 2 would likely arrive sometime during the studio’s fiscal 2028 period, roughly between April 2027 and March 2028.”
Michael hits cinemas on Wednesday.

Ronnie Wood playing a rare solo show in London this summer | Music | Entertainment

The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood has today announced a rare UK solo show – his first in more than 16 years. Following the immediate sell-out of two Ronnie Wood And His Band shows at Amsterdam’s legendary Paradiso, the rocker will bring the show featuring Imelda May to London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum on August 21.
Tickets go on sale this Friday and Ronnie said: “I’m looking forward to kickin’ ass with my back catalogue and some new songs – look out London!” The solo show at Paradiso sold out in minutes, with a second night subsequently added. Due to continued demand, the London show and another gig, in Cologne, Germany, have been announced.
These intimate shows are described an opportunity to see one of the world’s most iconic guitarists outside of his stadium performances with The Rolling Stones. They mark the first full live solo sets Ronnie Wood has played in more than 16 years.
Joining the band for both performances will be his friend Imelda May. The pair have collaborated multiple times on record and live, notably at the 2023 Jeff Beck Tribute Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
The 78-year-old musician is a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having been honorued with the Rolling Stones and the Faces.
He has played in some of the most influential rock groups of all time and guested with a who’s who of British music. At the same time, he’s enjoyed a remarkable parallel career as a highly regarded artist and, as a natural raconteur, has won a record three prestigious Sony Radio Personality awards.
The Stones are reportedly gearing up to release a new as yet untitled album in July after posters for a mysterious band called the Cockroaches appeared in London earlier this month. A single called Rough and Twisted was released on April 11.
Their last album, 2023’s Hackney Diamonds, was the first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts. Many critics considered it their best album for years.
Tickets for Ronnie Wood and Hid Band go on sale at 10am on Friday via myticket.co.uk
